Trump Pledges To Cut 165,000 Pages Worth Of Regulations [VIDEO]

The Trump administration has delayed or withdrawn more than 1,500 regulations, according to the White House, and federal agencies plan cutting even more in 2018.

Agencies have withdrawn 635 regulations, made 244 inactive and delayed another 700 rules, according to figures provided by the White House. Added up, that comes to eliminating 22 regulations for every new one imposed.

“In 1960, there were approximately 20,000 pages in the Code of Federal Regulations, today there are over 185,000 pages,” President Donald Trump said in a speech at the White House on Thursday.

“When we’re finished … we will be less than where we were in 1960,” Trump said. Trump said excessive regulations “threaten our entire constitutional system.”

Trump signed an executive order earlier this year calling on federal agencies to cut two regulations for every new one introduced. A coalition of left-leaning groups sued to overturn the order, but the administration has persisted.

The White House is about the release its fall regulatory agenda, which plans even more cuts to federal rules in the coming months. It will ask to rescind three regulations for every new one introduced.

“Let’s cut the red tape,” Trump said.

So far, the Trump administration has put forward 67 deregulatory actions, compared to three regulatory actions. Officials claim to have cut $8.1 billion in regulatory costs of the  between $5.7 and $15.2 billion in costs the Obama administration put in place in 2016.

In July, the Trump administration announced it had halted or withdrawn 860 regulations, but in the months since officials have put more regulations under review. Agencies added 32 percent fewer pages to the Federal Register in 2017 than the previous year.

One of the biggest deregulatory moves came in October when Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt announced the repeal of the Clean Power Plan, claiming $33 billion in avoided regulatory costs.

The repeal was in response to a Trump executive order rescinding a number of Obama administration global warming programs.
