Good News for GOP: Pelosi Says Dems will ‘Absolutely Not’ Retreat from Obamacare Message in 2014

Psychotic! Lets hold them to their word!

While Democrats ought to be reeling from the defeat of Alex Sink in Florida’s 13th Congressional District earlier this week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has declared that Obamacare, largely seen as the main issue for voters in Florida’s election, will be a key issue for Democrats running for reelection in 2014.
This is sure to delight Republicans who, after years of asserting that Obamacare will be a disaster, have earned the “I told you so” messaging rights for this year’s elections.

At her weekly briefing on Thursday, Rep. Pelosi claimed that Republicans were “wasting their time using [Obamacare] as an electoral issue.”
“It’s time for Republicans to end their obsession with the Affordable Care Act,” she said. When Rep. Pelosi was asked if Democrats should change course and not run on the supposed success of Obamacare, she answered, “Absolutely not.”
“I’m very proud of our House Democrats and how they have not only embraced the Affordable Care Act, because they helped create it, but how proud they are of it,” she stated. “I think the Republicans are wasting their time using that as their electoral issue, and they will find that out.”
Rep. Pelosi and her fellow Democrats have been working feverishly to attempt to paint this week’s upset to anything other than Obamacare. While other issues were certainly present in the Florida election, the race was watched carefully by the country as it was seen as a test case for the messaging of Obamacare.

Even though Democrats outspent Republicans $2.5 million to $1 million, Republican David Jolly emerged victorious with a slim margin of around 2%. Democrats have pounced on that margin as supposedly good news, insisting that Republicans have long held the 13th Congressional seat, and having only secured a small victory means Democrats’ messaging is solid.

In truth, however, the 13th District with Tampa Bay and Clearwater is largely urban and leans heavily moderate. In truth, Democrats had a serious shot at the district and still, they came up wanting.

With Republicans angered and frustrated with the failures of Obamacare, voter turnout is expected to be high amongst Republicans. Pelosi and her fellow Democrats can try to remain optimistic, but so long as they are running on Obamacare, it appears an electoral upset is in the works for November.
