Yesterday our 8th grade daughter made the decision to exercise her rights and refused to put on a mask for school. She was told first to put a mask on and she politely declined. She was then told to go to the office by her first hour teacher. In the office she was met by the secretary and her cheerleading coach. When she entered the office she was told that if she won’t put a mask on she needs to leave the building to which she complied. On her way out the door, her coach told her not to come to cheer practice which results in her not being able to cheer at this years first game. They let her walk out of the front door without ever contacting a parent or emergency contact. This happened over 24 hours ago. And if my wife hadn’t called them a couple hours later, they probably never would have called us. We were told that she has no other options for education. Either wear a mask or no education, cheer, etc. To me, this is completely unacceptable.
These are the people that are suppose to be protecting and educating our children. We didn’t even get a call! This is insanity!
Today, our daughter is at home and at this point we have decided on Homeschool outside of the district as our short term plan. The schools that are supposed to be protecting her let her walk out the front door, alone. People this is real! My 13rd daughter made an incredibly brave decision yesterday. This isn’t a show, this isn’t skipping out on school, this is important to her and she had the courage to do what she feels is right. They denied her education and also her cheer season for standing up for what she believes in even though she was alone. I’m proud of our little girl and we will find a school that supports her and doesn’t want to cover up that beautiful smile, or we will continue to teach her ourselves!
