It’s so easy to be a fake news journalist, right? You don’t need to investigate stories very much; all you need to do is figure out how to blame the current problem on Trump, and your story will tickle the ears of millions of lemmings. That includes the problem of current food prices.

After going shopping recently, I decided to try my hand at investigative journalism. Here is what I found out: During the immediate post-pandemic recovery period, economists, agricultural experts, and international institutions repeatedly warned that disruptions to farming infrastructure and supply chains would create long-term upward pressure on food prices. Key reports and articles detailed how rising input costs — particularly for energy and fertilizer — and structural vulnerabilities would take years to fully manifest at the retail level:
- World Bank Analysis (November 2021): The World Bank Commodity Markets Review warned that skyrocketing natural gas and energy costs were driving fertilizer prices to their highest levels since 2008. The report explicitly noted that these surging input costs would exert lagging inflationary pressures on global food supplies and jeopardize future crop yields.
- IFPRI & ScienceDirect Market Study (2021–2022): Research published on ScienceDirect documented the compounding shocks of the uneven post-COVID economic recovery and agricultural bottlenecks. In contrast to the structural and agricultural factors highlighted years ago, recent media coverage frequently focuses on current political decisions, specifically blaming the pricing environment on the policies of the Trump administration, such as trade tariffs and geopolitical friction:

The Politics of the Plate
The modern news cycle operates on a visible double standard, where long-term investigative depth is routinely sacrificed for immediate, highly politicized narratives. For years following the initial outbreak of COVID-19, agricultural economists, supply chain experts, and global institutions sounded an unambiguous alarm: The structural foundation of food production was fractured. The soaring costs of natural gas, historic spikes in fertilizer prices, systemic farm labor shortages, and catastrophic bottlenecks in global logistics were not temporary inconveniences. Experts explicitly stated that these compounding industrial failures would take years to fully pass through the supply chain, inevitably manifesting as severe, stubborn inflation on grocery shelves down the line.
Yet when those predictable price increases arrived, a significant portion of the legacy media largely ignored its own previous coverage and the foundational warnings of the agricultural sector. Rather than connecting the dots back to multi-year macroeconomic trends, multi-layered regulatory impacts, and systemic shocks to global farming infrastructure, current reporting frequently chooses the path of least resistance: attributing complex, systemic food inflation entirely to the active political administration and the policies of Donald Trump.
This pivot exposes a deeper laziness within modern political journalism. Investigating the compounding mechanics of a multi-year agricultural crisis requires rigorous research; economic literacy; and a willingness to explain complex, slow-moving global realities to the public. It demands that journalists analyze how a deficit in nitrogen or phosphorus fertilizers years ago alters crop yields today, or how energy policies over successive administrations shape the transportation costs of food from the field to the supermarket.
Instead of undertaking this vital investigative work, many outlets find it far more convenient to weaponize the immediate news cycle. By framing deeply rooted structural inflation purely as the direct consequence of current tariffs or executive actions, the media reduce a sophisticated global infrastructure crisis into a simplified partisan talking point. This pattern of reporting satisfies the demand for quick, polarizing content but fundamentally misleads the public. When news organizations prioritize political finger-pointing over genuine investigative due diligence, they fail in their core responsibility to provide objective, comprehensive truth, demonstrating a preference for narrative enforcement over rigorous journalism.
Trump Was So Right about Fake News
This story is very important to the American people, and the fake news media do not care. CNN, ABC, CBS, and the rest don’t give a tinker’s damn about reporting facts. Their job is to elect Democrats. Period. What has happened to this story is the same thing that has happened to scores of other important topics.
What do you do in your personal life when someone you know lies to you persistently? You should probably get him out of your life. Fake news is a real danger to the future of America; too many people believe it. My recommendation is this: Watch and read only real news, and in the midterm elections, give Trump the Republican Congress he needs to fix these problems.
