The mysterious case of the people who ate fish tank cleaner

Shortly after President Trump touted chloroquine as a potential cure for COVID-19, the media triumphantly reported that a man had died from taking homemade chloroquine due to Trump's recommendation.  It turned out that the man's wife fed him some fish tank cleaner.  She even partook of it with him, except that he died while she didn't.  As a dedicated murder mystery reader, I didn't blame Trump.  My suspicions were focused elsewhere.  It turns out that my instincts may have been right on the money.  Here's the story the drive-by media didn't tell you:
On March 20, President Trump expressed his hope that chloroquine (also prescribed as hydroxychloroquine) might be an effective way to treat COVID-19, especially when used in conjunction with Azithromycin, an antibiotic.  The next day, he reiterated that hope in a tweet.
Two days later, Axios reported, "Man dies after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate."  Axios articles have bullet points to guide readers.  In the case of what was a brief, and seemingly bizarre, news squiblet, the bullet points said "Why it matters," "Worth noting," and "Go deeper."  That last bullet point led readers to an article entitled "Trump touts drugs not yet approved by FDA for treating coronavirus."  The reader could almost hear the Axios editors adding, "hint,  hint."
Sure enough, by March 24, the narrative was in place.  President Trump was responsible for killing a man and almost killing a woman.  Indeed, these narratives were not subtle.  This NPR tweet is a stand-in for what all the media outlets were doing:
An Arizona man is died of a heart attack and his wife was hospitalized after the couple ingested a type of chloroquine, a chemical that has been hailed recently by President Trump as a possible "game changer" in the fight against novel coronavirus. https://t.co/ItBLKqac8B
— NPR (@NPR) March 24, 2020
Even as that lie was racing around the world, the truth was struggling to get out.  In this case, the truth was that the couple hadn't taken chloroquine at all.  Instead, they'd ingested a fish tank cleaner that had "chloroquine phosphate," a deadly chemical.
Even though a fish tank cleaner has nothing to do with a long recognized and legal anti-malarial drug, the media and the woman herself pushed the anti-Trump narrative.  Indeed, the woman explicitly condemned Trump: "Don't believe anything that the President says and his people."
On March 28, I wrote a post for publication on March 29 about the fact that Trump was probably right about chloroquine's efficacy and that the media were almost certainly wrong when they rushed out to condemn it solely because he praised it.  By the time I wrote that post, I'd been saying to friends for a couple of days that I didn't believe that anyone could be stupid enough to think eating fish tank cleaner with chloroquine phosphate is the same as getting a prescription for chloroquine from a doctor.
Instead, I told my friends, look to Agatha Christie or Dorothy Sayers for answers.  Both of those women wrote mysteries in which the killer also ingested small amounts of the poison to deflect attention.
When I wrote the post, I included the same point I'd made to my friends, although I did it parenthetically.  On the evidence available, I had a niggling gut feeling that stupidity didn't explain events: "In an Agatha Christie mystery, the truth would have been that the woman cleverly figured out how to kill her husband."
By March 30, thanks to some excellent reporting from the Washington Free Beacon, there was more information about the woman who survived.  Most people noted the fact that she was a fanatic anti-Trumper and "pro-science" person.  In the post I wrote for publication on March 31, I obsessed about something different, which was the fact that the story didn't ring true:
Either this couple was staggeringly stupid (which is, admittedly, a possibility) or, as he said, something doesn't compute.  The whole thing reads like something out of a mystery novel, with the narrative being too pat: Trump is hopeful about a drug, a Trump-hating woman "spontaneously" decides that Trump explicitly recommended eating fish tank cleaner, her husband dies, and the media have a ready-made headline.  No matter how you spin it, it's a fishy story, at best.
Had I been keeping up with Techno Fog on Twitter, I wouldn't have been so delicate in my hints.  It turns out that "Court records show the wife who fed her husband fish cleaner (poison?) has a history of mental illness (paranoia, depression) and had considered divorcing her husband as far back as 2012":

The wife had significant health issues.

She testified that she had "adrenal gland failure, and steroids and heart medicine are keeping me functioning"

Her familiarity with medication doesn't exactly fit the profile of someone who would mix fish cleaner with soda.

(If you know the regimented type you understand.)

And she certainly wasn't shy to seek input from doctors.

Finances, marital problems, anger issues, depression.

These raise SIGNIFICANT questions when a spouse kills the other (taking this stuff was her idea).

A curious media would get the 911 call and see if there was an autopsy.

One last thing.

Listen to the audio interview.

What do you hear?

What don't you hear?https://t.co/uunyFipXzQ
— Techno Fog (@Techno_Fog) March 31, 2020
Here's an excellent rule of thumb when navigating stories that are hostile to President Trump: assume that everything you hear is a lie, whether it's from the media or from the anti-Trump source about which the media is reporting.  Also, you can learn a lot about human nature and sneaky crimes by reading murder mysteries.
Incidentally, I'm with Techno Fog in that I'm not saying the woman committed a crime.  I'm only saying the police should look closely at her actions.  It's equally possible that her husband was simply a victim of a woman who is malignantly stupid.

Limbaugh: Remember The Swine Flu Panic? 60 Million Americans Infected, 300,000 Hospitalized

Funny hearing these maggots all saying that Trump should ask Obama.  Rush has no reason to lie... Left wing media does aka sucking ass everyday

RUSH LIMBAUGH: I’m always interested in people’s reaction to this program. I think I have a lot of empathy, and I think one of the reasons why the relationship you and I have is good is ’cause I know how you hear this show. That, I think, is a key ingredient. It’s called empathy. I know how you hear it.

So when I check emails and get questions from people, usually I’m not surprised, and I’m not surprised that I got beaucoup number of questions: “Rush, you don’t sound panicked over any of this. The last two days, you don’t sound panicked, and yet everybody’s panicked. I’m panicked,” people say in their email. “I’m scared to death. I mean, I’ve looked, the stock market was pulling up to 30,000. Now it’s down to 21,000. The Democrat Party, every move they’re making is designed to grow government, make government bigger, and you don’t seem alarmed.”

Folks, panic is… I don’t know. I’m not panicked. I am ticked off like you cannot believe, and I am really having a conversation with myself about how far to go in explaining why I’m mad, ’cause I’m mad about the politics of this. For example, let me give you some statistics. How many of you even remember the swine flu 2009, 2010? I don’t remember it. I mean, I remember we had it. But I don’t remember any panic about it. I don’t remember a thing about the swine flu.

I went back and looked at the stats and I was stunned. Are you ready for this? The swine flu outbreak in this country in 2009 and 2010, 60 million Americans were infected. Do you remember that? Sixty million were infected. Dr. Siegel, one of the Fox doctors was on TV explaining this last night. He was not my primary source for it, but he ended up confirming it. Sixty million people were infected.

Do you know how many people were hospitalized in 2009-2010 with the swine flu? Three hundred thousand were hospitalized. So 60 million people infected, 300,000 hospitalized. And nobody even remembers it. And why? Well, because we had a different president. We had a Democrat president by the name of Barack Obama, and the news then was how wonderfully well Obama was handling it, how expertly well Obama was dealing with it.

There wasn’t any media panic. The Republican Party did not politicize it at all. They made not one single effort that anybody can find or remember to try to make political hay out of it. It was treated as a health issue from top to bottom. Sixty million Americans infected, 300,000 hospitalized. I don’t know what the death toll was. The numbers with the coronavirus are not even close. They are barely a fraction of a percentage compared to the swine flu.

And then we also had Ebola. And I do remember a little bit more about Ebola, and once again, the Drive-By Media was praising the skills and the composure and the brilliance of Barack Obama in dealing with it. And I remember being kind of ticked off about that because there wasn’t anything anybody can do about Ebola. Ebola is like any of these other viruses. There’s nothing we can do to contain them.

See, the reason I’m not panicked is I don’t have enough emotion left for panic ’cause I’m too mad. I’m too ticked off at this. We’re watching the U.S. economy be wrecked here. There’s some people enjoying it. And it makes me mad. There’s some people’s lives here that are being seriously damaged over this. And you know what’s gonna happen? It’s gonna end. We are going to overcome it. It’s going to fizzle out like all of these do.

How did we ever survive 60 million infected with the swine flu? But we did to the point that hardly anybody remembers it. And that’s just 10 years ago, 300,000 hospitalized. So we overcame it. We overcame Ebola. This is gonna end, it’s gonna pass. And I’ll tell you what else is gonna happen. Because of the actions President Trump has taken, like this travel ban from Europe, that has really put the Democrats in a dicey position.

There’s some real positives if you want to find ’em here, and I, of course, have, and I’ll share them with you in a minute. The point is we’re gonna rebound from this, and when we do, you had better get ready and hold on tight, because this market’s gonna rebound. The people who are selling right now and getting out of it are panicking, and they don’t want to be selling. Everybody’s doing this from a very defensive posture and point of view.

And it’s adding… Like we get news that Tom Hanks and his wife have coronavirus. “Oh, no, it’s all going (mewling)! It’s over. Oh, my…” And then his kid — his kid, Chet — goes on TV, tries to calm everybody. “They’re fine. They’re in Australia. They’re fine. They’re not suffering at all. Everything’s fine!” It doesn’t matter. They’ve got it.

Anyway, this is gonna end, and this market is gonna rebound like you can’t believe because the people who have been selling off want to get back in it. And we are taking economic procedures right now that are going to serve to further reignite the economy when all this passes. And when we get back into the growth trajectory, some of the proposals the president’s making regarding payroll taxes, Small Business Administration loans, even a tax holiday?

You just wait until people have no more emotion left to be panicked and get tired of this and want to go a different direction. And that day is gonna happen. The day’s gonna come where people are gonna wake and say, “I’m tired of living this way. I’m fed up with being panicked every day. I’m fed up,” and then — because of the actions the president’s taken — we’re not gonna have that many brand-new infections.

By shutting off this travel from Europe… As I said, this has really put the Democrats in a bad position ’cause they love the European Union. They love it, and the very fact that travel from their beloved European Union has been shut down… But let… If they come out and oppose this, then they’re essentially coming out for open borders. This is actually… If you want to look at it politically, it’s a good move from that standpoint.

But I’m not panicking ’cause I’m too mad about this.

This is… I don’t know. (sigh) It’s… I know some of you are saying, “Rush, easy for you to say.” It isn’t easy for me to say, folks. Nobody’s immune from what’s happening here. I mean, you go back and you look at these swine flu numbers and you ask, “What was different? (chuckles) What was different was we had a Democrat in the White House and so the media didn’t want to be critical of the government.

The media wanted to be promoting him. They wanted to be positive. They wanted to promote the brilliance of Barack Obama, the brilliant management skills, the temperament, the crease in his slacks, the intelligence and all that. Now we’ve got just exact opposite.

Nolte: CNN Blacklisted Trump’s Most Important Coronavirus Briefing to Date

President Donald Trump speaks about the coronavirus in the James Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House, Tuesday, March 31, 2020, in Washington. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)

CNN not only blacklisted President Trump’s most important coronavirus briefing to date, the far-left network bragged about it.
Yes, you read that correctly. While the American president was informing the American public Tuesday night of just  how awful the next two weeks are going to be, about the possibility we could lose anywhere from 100,000 to 220,000 Americans to the coronavirus, CNN blacklisted the president of the United States and refused to broadcast the briefing.
And while it was blacklisting the president of the United States, CNN bragged about it.
I’m not one to mock and criticize everyday people, I try to save my scorn for elites and counterpunches, but how fucking stupid are those who still watch CNN? How is it possible that in the age of this Chinese virus, there are still eight to nine hundred thousand idiots out there desperate to be lied to, deliberately misinformed, and shielded from actual news?
While the president of the United States is making the most somber, sobering, and detailed statement yet about the unspeakable future the next few weeks hold for us, CNN viewers were treated to that moron Wolf Blitzer nattering on about whatever anti-Trump talking point the Democrat National Committee passed out that particular day.
Incredibly, it was only after President Trump was done informing the public that CNN decided to carry part of the briefing, which of course proves CNNLOL is indeed singling out the president of the United States to blacklist.
Nevertheless, because he is the adult in this relationship. Trump still took numerous questions from CNN staffer Jim Acosta, way too many in my opinion, including a 20 minute back-and-forth.
Sorry, but Trump should not be allowing a network that blacklists him to monopolize that much of his time during these briefings, especially when Acosta is only interested in scoring partisan points.
Those of us watching at home are waiting for information that matters, not to watch Acosta preen for his Chinese puppetmasters.
White House
Volume 90%
The delicious irony in all this is that CNN did accidentally broadcast the news that the administration was “very, very early” in attacking the Wuhan virus, this per Dr. Anthony Fauci, the very man CNN has held up as a shining light of science and truth.
CNN also accidentally broadcast the news from Dr. Deborah Birx, that the U.S. was slower to respond because the medical community was caught off guard by China’s fake data.
“When you looked at the China data originally, you start thinking of this more like SARS than you do a global pandemic,” she said, referring to only 50,000 reported infections in an area population of 80 million.
“The medical community interpreted the Chinese data as, this was serious, but smaller than anyone expected,” Birx added. “Because …we were missing a significant amount of the data, now that we see what happened to Italy and we see what happened to Spain.”
So CNN did accidentally broadcast the death of its maliciously dishonest talking point about how people are dying because Trump didn’t want to take this seriously.
Look for “very, very early” to appear in all kinds of Trump ads.
Nevertheless, unless you understand just how vile, small-minded, partisan, and unserious CNN is (the people of Ferguson and Baltimore know), it is almost impossible to wrap your mind around an outlet that identifies as a serious news outlet blacklisting the president of the United States at any time, much less a time like this;  much less a briefing like the one we all saw (well, we who aren’t stupid enough to trust CNN) last night.
And let me close by saying this…
Shame on all of you who still pay for cable TV.
Whether or not you watch CNN, as I have been pointing out for ten years now, you are still subsidizing CNN through your cable bill, and shame on you for doing so. This isn’t shits and giggles anymore. This isn’t right v. left anymore. These people are monsters and you’re funding their monstrosity — what, so you can watch Fox News, which is only a little better, or Turner Classic Movies? Indefensible.
No one paying for cable or satellite TV has the moral right to complain about CNN — because YOU are the reason that Hate Machine is still alive.
