Pinal County, AZ Sheriff Paul Babeu urged the Congress to “stop this president” from granting amnesty to illegal immigrants via executive order on Friday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.
“The president, now, if you back remember a couple years ago, he said that he didn't even have this authority [to grant amnesty] and that he must work with Congress. Well, how two years later does he all of a sudden have this power and authority? And this is federal overreach of power to circumvent the lawmaking body, which is Congress, we all know, Congress needs to stop this president.”
He also slammed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her objection to the term “illegal alien,” saying “the political correctness is getting sickening, and for them to say that this is not illegal…this is where the leaders of our country have come to a point where they're not telling the truth, and it's so easy for us to see.”
Babeu further reported that the ACLU is suing him and two of his deputies for following the law and turning an illegal immigrant over to federal officials. He stated that individual “was an illegal alien, and she was stopped by one of my deputies, she had a broken windshield, [and another] traffic violation. And she didn’t have a driver's license, surprise, and she didn’t have car insurance. We're required by law to tow that vehicle. We're also required by law, in Senate Bill 1070 ruled by the Supreme Court, if we have reasonable suspicion that person is in the country illegally, we have to ascertain that information and then call ICE or the Border Patrol. We did that. Border Patrol said ‘bring that person here.’ We did. The traffic stop and that transportation of that individual took 30 minutes. They detained her for five days. So now, the ACLU is not suing the Border Patrol, or the president, they're suing me and my deputies for enforcing the law and doing our job.”
