Ted Cruz might be the most qualified presidential hopeful in decades. Here are some things you may not know about him.

Let’s be honest. The elites and the establishment in the GOP fear Ted Cruz more than Donald Trump. Why?  Because he’s one of a small minority of elected officials who refuses to compromise and play ball with them. He is not a cronyist. He is a stalwart who, agree with him or not, stands on principle. And he might just be the most qualified person to run for office in quite some time.
Here are some things you may not know about Ted Cruz:
  • His dad, a Cuban revolutionary, immigrated to the United States after being beaten for speaking out against Castro and Communism. Upon arriving in the US, his dad spoke little English but was quickly able to learn it, and get accepted into the University of Texas.
  • Both of his parents have degrees in mathematics and were computer programmers. His dad was also a pastor.
  • He was valedictorian of his high school.
  • He graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1992 and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1995.
  • He was arguably the best debater that Princeton has ever had. He won debate after debate and honor after honor. In fact, he was so good at debating that Princeton literally has a debate award named after him.
  • He was the primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, the executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and the founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.
  • In high school, he memorized the Constitution and toured around reciting it to audiences.
  • He remembers everything he hears almost verbatim — something colloquially called an “audiographic memory”.
  • He was the first Hispanic law clerk for a Chief Justice of the United States.
  • He was advising the president by the age of 28.
  • He has argued 9 cases before the Supreme Court and won all 9.
I could go on and on. Ted Cruz is an extremely smart man who has accomplished an incredible amount in his life so far. But remember, no candidate is perfect, and none of these things make him qualified to be president. To be sure, theyhelp. But the main thing that qualifies him is his commitment to liberty and the Constitution. After all, that’s the main job of the President: To perpetuate liberty by upholding the Constitution. Plain and simple. In fact, that’s the unifying principle by which we should measure all candidates. Yes, we’re going to have strategic differences and narrow policy disagreements, but liberty (not personality, looks, anger or rhetoric) should always be the end goal. Remember this when trying to decide between candidates, let the principles of liberty guide your decision making — even if your conclusion is that you not vote for anyone.
