There are a lot of critics of this military strike, but I bet the men and women in uniform who served under the Obama regime aren’t among them.
Allen B West (h/t Emma) This point was driven home by a viral tweet by Johnny Joey Jones, a double amputee veteran, who tweeted out his exact feelings about the Trump military’s decision to drop a MOAB (Mother of all Bombs) GBU-43 bomb onto a fortified ISIS strong hold in Afghanistan this week.
The Obama administration’s hesitancy to act with anything more forceful than a BB-gun and harsh language was and is a well-known source of contention within ranks of on-the-ground military personnel. A standing but private joke being that Obama ROA (rules of engagement) required service members to obtain permission from enemy combatants before firing at them.
Truthfeed reported on Jones tweet:
“In a viral tweet, Johnny Joey Jones explains that he lost his legs because the Obama era government did not use the tools they had. Instead of using powerful bombs when he could, Obama found it more “politically correct” to risk American lives. Johnny Jones wishes that his military was part of the Trump administration, where that nonsense no longer exists.”
“After critics attacked him, Jones further defended his original point by telling the story of what happened. They begged to use bombs to clear a minefield ghost town, but Obama’s military said no.”
Jones’ tweet has drawn vital attention but he’s far from alone. In 2015 it was reported that “U.S. military pilots who have returned from the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq are confirming that they were blocked from dropping 75 percent of their ordnance on terror targets because they could not get clearance to launch a strike” and that “Strikes against the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) targets are often blocked due to an Obama administration policy to prevent civilian deaths and collateral damage,… The policy is being blamed for allowing Islamic State militants to gain strength across Iraq.
OBAMA ordered the military to drop flyers on ISIS trucks so that the ISIS drivers could run away in time. Meanwhile ISIS got 45 minutes of warning. Obama never actually wanted to bomb ISIS’ core forces. And ISIS knew this. All they had to do was surround themselves with civilians and they would be safe. Just like the Taliban did in Afghanistan.
You went 12 full months while ISIS was on the march without the U.S. using that air power and now as the pilots come back to talk to us they say three-quarters of our ordnance we can’t drop, we can’t get clearance even when we have a clear target in front of us,” [House Representative Ed] Royce said. “I don’t understand this strategy at all because this is what has allowed ISIS the advantage and ability to recruit.”
When asked to address Royce’s statement, a Pentagon official defended the Obama administration’s policy…”
So Obama did send planes with bombs against ISIS, he just didn’t allow the pilots to actually drop them. He sent other planes to ISIS too – airplanes full of cash via Iran. That was the Obama Department of Defense’s stance. It seems the Trump D.O.D’s stance can easily be summed up by one simple quote from the President-elect in late 2016:
“We will obliterate ISIS from the face of the Earth”
~ Donald J. Trump
