RUSH: In economic news, the jobless claims fell again to a 49-year low, 201,000. “The number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits in mid-September fell to a fresh 49-year low, more proof that a growing labor shortage and surging economy have given workers greater job security.” This goes together with the story from earlier in the week that retailers are already trying to hire for the holiday season, and they can’t fill the jobs.
They’re having to increase payment packages, comprehension packages to try to get people to commit to working the six weeks to two months of the holiday season. It is a workers’ market in this day and age. It’s interesting to note that this kind of news is seen by the Democrats as bad news. Unemployment is decreasing, jobless claims are declining, wages are rising, manufacturing jobs are surging, consumers are spending, retailers are celebrating, businesses are expanding. The country is in the midst of an economic boom that the last president said was impossible without magic.
(Obama impression) “What is he gonna do? Is he gonna wave a magic wand? How — how — how’s he gonna bring these jobs back, huh? Huh?” It’s so good that Obama and the Democrats are running around trying to claim credit for it now, which is laughable. There honestly is no way these economic numbers could be reached, this kind of economic activity could not happen under Obama administration policies. They just couldn’t! Obama would have left the tax rates where they were, if not increased them. Hillary Clinton would have done the same.
Hillary Clinton would have kept regulations in place and made new onerous ones, all the while telling people to get used to it, that America’s best days were really not that best. And the new normal is this. Democrats were famous for saying there isn’t any such thing as American greatness. “America’s never been that great,” said Andrew Cuomo. “Democrats Fear Trump ‘October Surprise’ Document Dump.” They’re deathly afraid.
Politico story: “Democrats worry that Trump and his allies are teeing up a series of document releases meant to gin up GOP voters before the midterms. Democratic operatives are growing anxious that Republicans working to undermine the FBI’s Russia probe…” Undermine the…? It’s a joke. “Last week, the Census Bureau announced new household income numbers, which showed that median income for Hispanic households grew by 3.7%, adjusted for inflation, last year. That’s more than double the increase seen by all households. More Hispanics moved into the upper-income brackets, and fewer remained in the lower ones.
“That’s welcome news as the nation celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.” Finally, Newsweek and all rally around… Why, the Democrats even must be thrilled over this; right? I mean, the Democrats are desperate for Hispanics to do… Well, aren’t they. Yeah, but not this way. Democrats don’t want Hispanics to do well when the Democrats don’t have anything to do about it, or with it. I’m wondering if it’s still — remember James Carville after he said this is what you get when you drag a dollar bill through a trailer park with a picture of Paula Jones there.
It was also James Carville who said, “It’s the economy, stupid. It’s the economy, stupid.” Is it still? The Drive-Bys are not reporting this economic news. They’re not touting it, not doing anything of the sort. It used to be the number one determinant in elections. Is it anymore? We don’t know. Speaking of it, the Dow Jones Industrial Average “returned to its all-time high earlier today while the Standard & Poor’s 500 hit a fresh record as well. Stocks gained everything they had lost and then some for the year and are up over 26,000 earlier today.”
Energy markets are surging and Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, says that the Chinese are about out of weapons in the trade war, that Trump is prevailing. Even that little guy up in Canada… “Canada’s Trudeau Under Growing Pressure to Get New NAFTA Deal Done with Trump.” So on the economic front, folks, it is surging! And the recovery from the damage of Hurricane Florence is going to contribute to a surging economy. It’s sad that it’s necessary, but it is.
