It is being reported that an abortion facility in Washington D.C. has been performing abortions when the child is 36 weeks since conception—well after it has developed a heartbeat, facial features, its hands and feet, and begins to develop the ability to see and hear.
The Daily Wire reports, “In what could be construed as a brazen slap in the face of those Americans who staunchly believe that an unborn child has rights, a Washington, D.C. abortion-providing facility unabashedly advertises on its website that it offers abortions up to 36 weeks.”
According to the report, abortion provider Capital Women’s Services claims on their websitethat they offer “late-term abortion care up to 36 weeks under certain circumstances, such as for fetal or maternal indications. All requests for late-term abortion care are handled on a case-by-case basis after consultation with our clinicians … The U.S. Supreme Court, in its classic Roe vs. Wade Decision, ruled that abortions are legal at any gestation to preserve the life or the health of the woman.”
And, from the abortion provider:
According to the CDC, birth defects affect 1 in every 33 babies born in the United States, and they are the most common cause of death in infancy, accounting for over 20 percent of all infant deaths.
No one is certain why there are so many birth defects. Some fetal anomalies are due to structural abnormalities (e.g. Anencephaly), exposure of the fetus to harmful substances (e.g. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome), or genetic defects (e.g. Trisomy 13).
We understand that this can be a difficult time. While some birth defects can sometimes be repaired surgically, in other cases the outlook is bleak. Discovering a fetal indication is often very upsetting news because it can sometimes mean that a wanted pregnancy can no longer continue. These are tragic situations, and we will always respect the right of a woman to make her own medical decisions regarding her own life, her own body, and her own family.
The ongoing debate on when an unborn child should be afforded legal protections has seemed to take a hit this week as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo praised a bill which would remove the penalty for performing a third-trimester abortion; Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo praised a similar bill; and, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam expressed support for a bill which would allow an abortion even when a woman was dilating.
Northam seemed to take things even further when he went on to say that a mother and a physician could decide to abort a child after he or she was birthed.
The Cleveland Clinic reports, “If born prematurely, your baby may survive after the 23rd week with intensive care.”
And, at the seventh month of pregnancy, an unborn child “responds to stimuli, including sound, pain, and light.”
The above series of events has shocked and stunned much of the pro-life movement in America who have expressed online that they hope lawmakers in states that have passed these abortion laws will reverse course and others who are still debating will choose to defend a child’s right to life.
