Ignorant of and/or dismissive of the longstanding U.S. position on the International Criminal Court (ICC), terrorist-sympathizing NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has renewed his demand for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested over alleged war crimes, while arguing that the United States should join the International Criminal Court and enforce all its warrants.
World Israel News “If I had my way, the US government would have joined the ICC, honored every single warrant that they’ve issued. I believe that the US government should join the ICC. It should enforce its warrants for everyone,” Mamdani said.
During his political campaign, Mamdani pledged to order the NYPD to arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York based on the ICC warrant. The United States is not an ICC member, and legal experts and federal statutes have established that local police cannot enforce its warrants against a sitting foreign head of state with diplomatic immunity while visiting the United Nations.
I suppose Mamdani missed all the coverage of what President Trump is planning to do to the ICC: Donald Trump has launched another sharp attack on the International Criminal Court, calling on member nations to ‘officially resign’ from what he described as a ‘rogue institution.’ His remarks come as the Trump administration intensifies its pressure on the ICC, including sanctions against ICC President Tomoko Akane and senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye.
The ICC has rejected the sanctions and called them an attack on the court’s independence, while U.S. officials have accused the court of exceeding its jurisdiction.
