CHICAGO (WLS) - A conservative website is
reporting President Barack Obama’s senior advisor Valerie Jarrett of Chicago has
an insider’s connection when it comes to some of her property taxes.
Jarrett owns an 11-percent equity interest in a luxury apartment
complex called Kingsbury Plaza, according to an aritlce in the Washington Free
Beacon. It was built by Habitat Company, where Jarrett was once chief executive
officer. Kingsbury Plaza and the land it is on are taxed at a value of $6.8
million, though it’s worth $27.2 million for tax purposes.
A series of legal appeals have reduced its value for tax
purposes and Republican state chairman Pat Brady has pointed out that House
speaker Mike Madigan’s law firm represents Habitat.
“Well it’s just another Chicago insider deal that goes all the
way up to the White House,” said Brady. “We have the de-facto chief of staff
Valerie Jarrett who apparently pays an exorbitantly low property tax rate for
her income properties all done at the hands of Mike Madigan who manipulated that
system for years.”
Brady concedes it’s all legal, but he says it’s not ethical.
