Media corporations have been misleading and harming the public with lies and fake news for decades. The ability of media giants to censor and suppress the truth has escalated into a full-fledged information war.
Now, the new documentary film Hoaxed, produced by independent journalist and best-selling author Mike Cernovich is blasting a gaping hole through the media’s propaganda matrix.
“Everything you’ve been told is a lie – most things we’re told,” Cernovich told the Gateway Pundit during the debut of his long-awaited movie Hoaxed at the American Priority Conference in Washington, DC. “Lies are harmful, that’s the whole problem. The lies hurt people. There are lies about everything all of the time.”
Cernovich slammed mass media companies purporting to be purveyors of truth. By exploiting and manipulating the public with artificial constructs of reality, he argued, the media ignites mob violence and ultimately claims the lives of thousands or millions of innocent civilians.
“Lies got us in all of our wars. There are lies about anything you can think of and these lies are harmful to people. One example of the lies would be when the media says ‘Antifa, they’re just protesters.’ If you believe that and you go to an event where Antifa is, you may get killed, beaten up by Antifa. That’s a lie that hurts you,”he said. “If you believe that there were [weapons of mass destruction] in Iraq, then we go to war and a lot of people in the Middle East get hurt.”
Hoaxed thoroughly investigates the concept of “fake news,” Cernovich explained, exposing how corporate media incessantly polarizes our already fractured nation by constantly contriving fake news and manipulating our perceptions.
“Nobody had made a great film on fake news in a way that is compelling to both sides,” he said. “Fake news is a term that everybody tosses around, but what does it really mean and who is really the fake news? So I did it. I wanted to do something interesting, something topical and I want it to age well also.”
Numerous studies have proven news organizations that hold themselves up as the most neutral and professional are actually producing campaign stories that are the most tilted in favor of Democrats. Regardless of his accomplishments, multiple complex studies from the Media Research Center have confirmed that 90 percent of broadcast news coverage of Trump and his administration have been negative since the president took office almost two years ago. Newscasts on the big three networks, ABC, CBS and NBC, are especially hostile toward the Trump administration.
Cernovich, who has also been viciously maligned by the mainstream media and branded by Wikipedia as an “alt-right conspiracy theorist, noted that liberal media bias is nothing news. But the media establishment’s ability to censor and suppress viewpoints that that counter the mainstream media’s narrative, he argued, sets an unprecedented danger.
“What’s news is – and that’s why they want to shut people down – is censorship. That’s new – social media is able to reveal their lies in real time,” he said. “Chris Cuomo goes on CNN and says ‘reading WikiLeaks is illegal. Before social media, people watch that and say, ‘uh oh, I better not read the Wikileaks, they’re illegal’.’
“But now everyone can go on social media and go ‘ no you are just a liar, you are just a fraud, it isn’t illegal to read WikiLeaks.’ It’s just a lie that’s – the whole thing. But without social media, they can lie to the public.”
A vast majority of Americans believe that traditional news outlets knowingly report false or misleading stories. According to a recent poll from Axios and SurveyMonkey, 72 percent of Americans and 92 percent of Republicans say “traditional major news sources report news they know to be fake, false, or purposely misleading,”
Americans are not just fed up with the media’s constant anti-Trump bias, but the propaganda is boring and predictable to those who are “sane and sober,” Cernovich argued.
“The media, they lost their mind on Trump. They went from being respected by everybody to now, ‘Trump this, Trump that’ – it’s boring,” he said. “It doesn’t offend me. It’s just boring. I think a lot of people are bored. People want complexity and nuance, they want something interesting.”
Hoaxed has cross-over appeal and won’t only attract conservatives or MAGA supporters, Cernovich predicted, but anyone who refrains from being “fixed” in their world view.
“People who want to argue or have a conversation or be more informed are going to love this film. Left, right, center – people are going to enjoy it and find enlightenment,” he said. “Now if people have a closed mind, and they are on the left or the right, they are not going to enjoy it.
“There is Black Lives Matter in the film in a way that is surprising I think to a lot of people. If you are fixed in your views, whatever they are, you are going to find this film triggering to you. And I think that is the fun, the fun is that people shock you, awe you and challenge you and make you reflect on you own views and go to where you are.”
Hoaxed features an all-star cast lineup, including Alex Jones, James O’Keefe, Tim Pool, Laura Southern, Ryan Holiday, Scott Adams, Stefan Molyneux and Gavin McGinnes.
