Tuesday, during his daily COVID-19 news conference, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said his stay-at-home order stands despite a judge’s Monday ruling granting a limited temporary restraining order against it.
“Let me remind everyone again — the stay-at-home order in Illinois is still very much in effect,” Pritzker said. “All of us must maintain social distancing, wear masks in public, and keep non-essential businesses closed until we can lower our still increasing hospitalizations and lower ICU bed use the danger has not passed yet, no matter whether you live in little Egypt or in Freeport, or in Quincy, or in Chicago.”
Governor JB Pritzker, D-Illinois, began his daily COVID-19 press briefing on Tuesday with harsh words about Rep. Bailey’s lawsuit.
“This was a cheap political stunt,” said Gov. Pritzker about Rep. Bailey’s lawsuit over the Stay-at-Home order extension.
Representative Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, filed a lawsuit late last week seeking to undo Gov. Pritzker’s executive order which has closed schools, shut down nonessential businesses, and limited movement by individuals because of the potentially deadly COVID-19.
Last week, Gov. Pritzker extended the Stay-at-Home order through the end of May.
Gov. Pritzker says, “the Stay-at-Home order is still very much in effect.”
Representative Bailey is the only citizen released from the order. Other residents would have to join his lawsuit or file their own.
