On Day 9, Biden signals he just might leave Republicans behind to get the next $2 trillion in COVID aid—and his first legislative win as President—across the finish line.
We Regret To Inform You That “Unity” Has Been Cancelled.
As Joe Biden struggles to find bipartisan support for the “American Rescue Plan,” he signaled for the first time Friday that he would be willing to move ahead without Republican support. So much for the vaunted “bipartisanship” and “spirit of unity.”
The Biden regime took all of nine days to break that pledge.
“I support passing COVID relief with support from Republicans if we can get it,” he told reporters. “But the COVID relief has to pass. No ifs, ands, or buts.”
Biden has argued that the $1.9 trillion would be a bargain compared to the potential economic damage of inaction—but he has a formidable challenge pitching the urgency to Republicans, with $4 trillion in pandemic aid already in the rearview mirror.
Republicans have asked for a fuller accounting of the $900 billion coronavirus aid package from December and have suggested breaking up the next round of relief into multiple parts, a proposal rejected by Democrats.
“Literally, the money [from December] has not gone out the door,” Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) said. “I’m not sure I understand why there’s a grave emergency right now.”
The “American Rescue Plan” also contains an increase for the federal minimum wage to $15.00.
Vice President Kamala Harris promoted the bill in a pair of interviews with local TV stations in West Virginia—to the surprise of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) who claimed no one from the administration reached out about the promo.
“That’s not a way of working together,” Manchin said.
Vaccinations For Gitmo!
At the direction of the Pentagon, the terrorists at Guantanamo Bay may very well receive the Coronavirus vaccine before you do.
The Pentagon confirmed Friday that the vaccine will be offered to all Guantanamo Bay detainees and prisoners.
Apparently, “the lack of vaccinations has stymied Pentagon legal proceedings, including the case agains Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the man who is accused of being one of the masterminds behind the attacks on U.S. soil on Sept. 11, 2001,” The Hill reports.
Go figure.
From The Briefing Room.
What we learned from Friday’s White House press briefing: many things are under review, and very few further details are available.
- On Monday, Psaki’s description of the current U.S. posture toward China was “strategic patience.” As of Friday, the United States is “approaching that relationship from a position of strength.”
- Message to the American people: “What is the broader message to the American public and people about the world that in large cases, individual investors acting collectively against large financial institutions are shut down pretty much overnight, while the big banks and financial institutions responsible for the 2008 housing crisis got a ‘get out of jail free’ card?”
Psaki: “Well, the message is that the U.S. government is starting to work how it should.”
- What happens when you circle back: “FEMA has requested active-duty troops be used at vaccination centers when they get stood up across the country. Does the White House support that request?”
Psaki turned pages in her briefing book for an agonizing 30 seconds, then said she’d talk to her team about it.
Whatever way you slice it, this regime’s public policy and press operations are already turning out to be a total disaster. No one the corporate media is more interested in GameStop.
