Illinois Black Lives Matter founder and executive director Clyde McLemore was caught on video beating a female employee at the BLM Resource Center in Waukegan.
The violent incident occurred in January, but the surveillance video of the fight, obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner, was released on Tuesday.
Police were dispatched to the BLM center on January 12 after receiving a battery call.
Clyde McLemore told police that an employee, identified as Nyesha Hill, approached him while he was at his computer and asked him for money and cigarettes.
McLemore told officers that he informed Hill that his organization “ain’t got no money,” so he couldn’t pay her because the [grant] money is “gone.”
Per Lake and McHenry County Scanner:
The founder of Black Lives Matter Lake County was caught on video engaging in a physical fight at his Waukegan office with a female worker, who alleges that he has been mishandling money from the organization.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. on January 12 to the Black Lives Matter Resource Center, 668 Lenox Avenue in Waukegan, for a report of an unknown subject and a battery call.
A police report recently obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner said officers spoke with Clyde J. McLemore and Nyesha A. Hill at the scene.
McLemore is the Founder and Executive Director of the Black Lives Matter Lake County chapter. He is also a member of the Lake County Regional Board of School Trustees.
McLemore told officers he was in his office on his computer when Hill, who is a worker at the organization, came into the office asking for money and cigarettes, the report said.
Nyesha Hill told officers that McLemore owed her money for her work and accused him of embezzling the grant money.
“I told him, ‘it’s not fair that I come here and I work and you running around taking care of other things that don’t got nothing to do with Black Lives Matter with Black Lives Matter money.’ I’m the one that make this joint work,” Nyesha Hill told police officers.
Hill told police officers that she doesn’t want to press charges against McLemore because she “does not want to see a black man in jail.”
