Seeking to minimize fallout from the Obama administration missing its year-end Obamacare enrollment targets by 1.3 million people, White House adviser Phil Schiliro said on Tuesday that the oft-cited seven million Obamacare enrollment target "was never our target number."
"There's no magic to the seven million," said Schiliro. "It came from the Congressional Budget Office, and it had become an accepted number."
Still, the Obama administration cited the seven million figure in a September memo as a signup target, notes The Hill.
The Obama administration now claims two million people have applied for Obamacare, a figure well below the 3.3 million it projected should have enrolled by now. However, even the administration's two million figure is inflated; half of the people who have applied for Obamacare in 17 states have yet to activate their plans by making their first payment, reports the Wall Street Journal.
