Despite the racially-motivated executions of two New York City police officers, race riots, and police departments being under constant threat from anti-police agitators, Obama believes that the United States is less racially divided now than before he took office.
Steve Inskeep asked Obama if he thought the country is more racially divided now compared to when he was elected president six years ago.
“No,” Obama responded. “I actually think that it’s probably in its day-to-day interactions less racially divided.”
Obama also shared his thoughts on working with a Republican-controlled Congress.
“Now you’ve got Republicans in a position where it’s not enough for them simply to grind the wheels of Congress to a halt and then blame me,” he said.
Obama’s NPR interview is set to air in three segments from Dec. 29 through 31.
Obama will also discuss his unilateral actions on immigration, as wells as his decision to normalize relations with Cuba.
