Last year, Barack Obama ordered that five bloodthirsty terrorist masterminds be traded to the Taliban for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, whose desertion and possible traitorous activity were known by the White House prior to the exchange. The White House staged a photo op at the White House with Bergdahl’s parents and sent Susan Rice out to the media to portray Bergdahl as a soldier who served with honor and dignity.
Monday, the White House signed a controversial nuclear deal with the Iranian regime that Obama celebrated as a historic achievement (Munich, Pearl Harbor, 9/11 were all historic, too). Left behind were four innocent American hostages imprisoned by the regime for years. On Wednesday, CBS White House correspondent Major Garrett asked about them. Barack Obama, the snarkiest, most thin-skinned president in American history, lashed out – not at the Iranians, but at the temerity of Garrett for daring to ask him the question.
During a Wednesday press conference about the Iran nuclear deal, President Obama was angered by a question from CBS reporter Major Garrett about the American prisoners held in Iran.
“Thank you, Mr. President. As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran, three held on trumped-up charges according to your administration and one whereabouts unknown. Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?” Garrett asked.
Iran currently holds four American prisoners: former Marine Amir Hekmati, Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian, and former FBI agent Robert Levinson.
President Obama seemed to take offense to Garrett’s question that he celebrated and was content while four American citizens languish in Iranian custody.
“I’ve got to give you credit for how you craft those questions,” Obama said, pausing at one point to glare at Garrett before continuing. “The notion that I’m content as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails, Major, that’s—that’s nonsense, and you should know better.”
John Kerry explicitly and repeatedly said that he did not discuss or want to involve the fate of the Americans in the nuclear deal with Iran. He wanted to limit the discussions just to the nuclear program.
In other words, Iran gets tens of billions of dollars (that had been held in banks as part of the sanctions regime established to prevent its acquiring nuclear weapons), gets to trade oil, gets a pathway to a nuclear arsenal, gets limits on ballistic missile development and weapons transfer lifted, has an arch-terrorist with much American blood on his hands removed from a sanctions list that had cramped his plans to murder more Americans, gets more money to give to terror groups and the genocidal regime of Bashar Assad in Syria – and the White House could not get four innocent Americans released in return?
We give away five terrorists for a deserter who betrayed his fellow Americans. We give away billions of dollars and give Iran the leeway to develop nuclear weapons and deploy them – and much more – and we can’t get four innocent Americans back home. They weren’t even part of the discussions with the Iranians. Obama values terrorists, traitors, and Tehran more than American hostages.
(Perhaps we should know by now that Obama does not care about innocent Americans held hostage or beheaded by terrorists.)
