Pentagon: Two U.S. Navy Boats Are In Iranian Custody

Update (LB):
According to the Associated Press, mechanical issues with one of the boats caused them to run aground, which is when they were then picked up by Iran.
Update (LB):
The reason they were taken into custody remains unclear. All one senior defense official publicly stated was that "They ran into some type of an issue, and were picked up by the Iranian craft."
"Subsequently, U.S. and Iranian government officials have discussed the situation and negotiated their transit," the official added.
"They're being allowed to continue their journey," the official continued. According to The Hill, the official "did not want to characterize whether they were being escorted by the Iranian vessels."
Secretary of State John Kerry has been in communication with Iranian officials regarding this incident.

The Pentagon says it briefly lost contact with two small Navy craft in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday but has received assurances from Iran that the crew and vessels will be returned safely and promptly.
Ten American sailors are reportedly being detained.
