Vice magazine explained that the bill included $8.7 billion in cuts to food stamps, though it should be noted that Republicans had at the time sought between $20.5 billion and $39.5 billion in cuts.
Regardless, on April 1 in the state of New York, for example, 50,000 able-bodied abusers will be kicked off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for at least three years, if not hopefully even longer.
Still, something is better than nothing, and with so many Americans shamelessly living off the dolewhile making zero effort to better their lives, it bodes well for the country that the president finally agreed to take at least some action against this abuse.
Moreover, several Republican presidential candidates have reportedly promised to enact even tougher welfare reform if and when they become president.
Take for instance Sen. Ted Cruz, who promised to put a permanent halt to the practice of proffering food stamps to illegal immigrants.
Entitlement programs exist for a legitimate reason: Some people, such as the elderly and the disabled, genuinely need and deserve assistance (although many conservatives would question whether the federal government is the best source of that assistance).
As for single, able-bodied adults who just hang around all day and play video games — they deserve a kick in the behind, not a handout.
For once, Obama got it right, though to be fair, he screws up so often that this barely counts in his favor.
