Ford joins a growing list of companies, including Dow Chemical, Carrier and IBM, that have made new job and investment announcements in a vote of confidence for incoming president Donald Trump.
With 17 days to go before taking office, Trump has also convinced Carrier Air Conditioner to keep 1,200 jobs here. He got the CEO of Dow Chemical to bring 25,000 jobs back here, and IBM said they will add 25,000 more jobs here.
Sprint, which is owned by SoftBank, joined the list this week, pledging to bring back 5,000 jobs months after cutting thousands of employees. And OneWeb, which plans to provide satellite-based internet service and is backed by Japanese conglomerate SoftBank which has also just pledged to invest 50 billion dollars into the U.S. economy, similarly announced plans to create new jobs.
U.S. Steel plans to restart its Keetac iron ore mine in Minnesota and announced it would bring 202 workers back to the mine operation starting in January 2017. Many have been out of work for 19 months.
