A Texas man has been arrested for opening a tub of Blue Bell ice cream in a Walmart, licking it, putting it back on the shelf and then posting a video of his disgusting behavior on social media.
D’Adrien Anderson, 24, posted the video on his Facebook account on Monday and was arrested on Thursday evening.
Licking ice cream and putting it back on the shelf has become part of a sick trend of people posting photos of themselves tampering with food in grocery stores in hopes of going viral. In fact, Anderson himself even wrote that was his motivation in the caption of his 19 second long video, writing “Happy national soft ice cream day lmao #viral.”
The video had over 130,000 views by Friday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Anderson posted another video with the caption “I love your ice cream #bluebell plz don’t ban me from buying it #im#sorry.”
According to Walmart, they have Anderson on surveillance camera removing the ice cream from the shelf after the video and purchasing it, but the store still had to remove all of their Blue Bell ice cream in case it had been tampered with.
“If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke-it is not,” Walmart told local station KTRK in a statement.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday evening and Anderson turned himself in on Thursday morning. He has since been released on a $1,000 bond.
According to a report from The Hill, Anderson has been charged with a misdemeanor of criminal mischief and faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000 if convicted.
