Black Panthers arrested, allegedly tried to buy explosives for use in Ferguson

On Friday CBS News reported that two men believed to be members of the New Black Panther Party were arrested after they allegedly attempted to purchase explosives for use in Ferguson. The two men, identified as Brandon Orlando Baldwin and Olajuwon Davis, were arrested on firearms charges.
According to court documents, the two men were arrested and charged with the illegal purchase of two Hi-Point .45 ACP pistols. FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu said they were arrested on outstanding warrants.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the two suspects over allegations they attempted to purchase explosives and other weapons ahead of a grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown.
In a tweet issued Friday, CBS said the two men are suspected of being members of the New Black Panther Party, an organization that has helped spur violent protests in Ferguson. CBS also said a law enforcement source indicated the explosives were intended to be used in pipe bombs.
According to another report, Chawn Kweli, a leader of the New Black Panther Party, blamed the arrest on Counter Intelligence Program, or "COINTELPRO." He also implied the arrest was part of a larger conspiracy in a post on his blog.
“The wicked enemies of black people use lies and deceit to confuse the masses and misdirect the legitimate aspirations of the black power movement,” he wrote. “As seen, in St. Louis, Mo, with the arrest of Chairman Olajawon Ali, and other activist ahead of the decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson for killing Mike Brown – or not!”
Kweli, as we reported in 2012, issued a statement saying, "the white man is the devil." He was also involved in a conversation that included talk of a race war and bloodshed.
The FBI has dispatched some 100 agents to the St. Louis, Missouri, area ahead of the grand jury decision. The agency also warned in an intelligence bulletin that the decision "will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure.” Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has also declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard to help maintain order if necessary.
