There comes a time when one believes they’ve gotten away with so many falsehoods that truth is no longer familiar. Such is the growing case with President Barack Obama. His incessant rhetoric now reflects someone who’s become detached from reality — especially his own reality. Case in point was the president’s most recent weekly address.
Speaking in his weekly address yesterday [Saturday], President Barack Obama defended his unilateral actions that would allow illegal aliens to stay in the United States, work, and receive federal benefits. The “law is on our side,” Obama said.
Administration action on that amnesty is currently forbidden by an injunction issued by a federal court and upheld by a federal appeals court. “Last fall, I took action to provide more resources for border security; focus enforcement on the real threats to our security; modernize the legal immigration system for workers, employers, and students; and bring more undocumented immigrants out of the shadows so they can get right with the law,” the president said in his address. “Some folks are still fighting against these actions. I’m going to keep fighting for them. Because the law is on our side. It’s the right thing to do. And it will make America stronger.”
As we reported here last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been releasing criminal illegal immigrants back into our populace. The agency claimed it lacked resources to maintain these ‘Threat Level 1’ illegal immigrants, so used its own discretion to release them.
That narrative runs counter to President Obama’s own words. In his weekly address the president maintains the law is on his side. Which law is that exactly?
Article I, Section 8, Clause 4 of the United States Constitution says, “The Congress shall have Power To…establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization….”
Our rule of law does not give the executive branch the enumerated power to establish a uniform rule of naturalization. Nor does our rule of law state that the president gets to assume powers from the legislative branch if it doesn’t do as he demands. And as we all remember, President Obama himself stated on some 22 or more occasions that he could not take unilateral action on our naturalization laws.
At some point, President Obama once again was lying. Either he was lying those 22-plus times when he said he couldn’t take unilateral action, or he lied during his most recent weekly address. But what are the consequences for the president repeatedly lying to the American people?
Nothing. Nada. Diddly squat.
Therefore, in true Pavlovian fashion — in the same vein as, “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” — President Obama continues lying to us because he’s not held responsible or accountable. I know the liberal progressive left cares little for the rule of law. And, of course, the allies of the progressive socialist left — the teachers unions — care little about educating our children on the Constitution, our rule of law. And so we’ve come to a point in the existence of this constitutional republic where a “living Constitution” is based on the whims of man — one man in this case.
Let me be clear: this is not about Obama. This is about an oath I took on July 31, 1982. It’s an oath that’s been taken by other members of my family — U.S. Army Corporal Herman West, Sr.; U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Herman West, Jr; U.S. Army Major Herman Bernard West II; and my cousin U.S. Air Force Major General Ed Bolton. We, along with many others, took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL [emphasis mine]enemies, foreign and domestic,” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” There’s a growing legion of guardians of this republic called Oath Keeperswho’ve come to believe there’s no statute of limitations on that oath — it NEVER ends until we draw our last breath.
This isn’t just about lying to my countrymen; it’s about disrespecting the American people to whom I took an oath. This isn’t about the detestable pursuit called politics in America. This is about honoring my oath. Perhaps when I was elected to Congress I was a bit ahead of my time — but I saw this coming. A person so disrespectful of our Constitution that it has placed our nation and its future at grave risk. And to think there are those in our country who’d support and champion yet another politician who lies and disrespects our rule of law to assume the presidency is just unconscionable, intolerable and unacceptable.
To those who embrace this lawlessness and abject disregard of our fundamental rule of law, I pledge before almighty God that I will fight you to my last breath. If you’re willing to believe that there are no consequences to lying — indeed, that it should be rewarded — I can only offer you up in prayer. But know that your attacks on me only fuel my desire to uphold my oath and honor the legacy of my mom and dad. There are many of us who feel the same and will not succumb to the voices that represent a minority. There are far more of us who will not consent to the blatant disrespect of our nation — and we don’t need to be presidents to make this stand.
We just need to be patriots —and honor our oath knowing that liberty comes with responsibility.
