After a Honduran immigrant was found dead on a South Texas ranch, Channel 5 News in Rio Grande, Texas ran a special report called “Paying the Price.”
Eddie Canales, a human rights activist, claims the woman is just one of hundreds who die in the brush of South Texas and on the land of many ranch owners.
Many illegals go missing and gaining access from landowners to do searches on their private property is a hassle.
The South Texas landowners are now speaking out about taking the blame of the number of people dying. In Brooks County alone, 41 bodies have been found.
“We just think the landowner shouldn’t take the blame on this,” Susan Kibbe, said.
Kibbe represents the majority of the landowners in Brooks County and is the director of the South Texas Property Rights Association.
“Somehow the U.S. is blamed for their deaths, or ranchers are blamed for their deaths, or others are blamed for their deaths,” she continued.
“When they know when they come into the country illegally, they’re taking this chance.”
The South Texas Property Rights Association says Congress needs to secure the border.
