What a crushing feeling it must be to be a Democrat, an infotainment industry newsreader, or a NeverTrumper today. The week started off so full of hope, with impeachment in the air as the autumn colors turned. That was Monday. By Thursday morning it was all over but the shouting.
Oh, and the lies. Lots and lots of lies.
Over the weekend, news broke that a whistleblower had the goods on Trump, who had supposedly twisted the arm of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky into a quid pro quo deal to investigate Joe Biden, Trump's potential president rival. The swamp fever pitch reached such heights over the next two days that on Tuesday afternoon House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally succumbed to her party's Kamikaze Wing and announced an "official" impeachment "inquiry." It seemed to the overly eager beavers in the MSM-DNC that with one phone call, POTUS had finally put the impeachment football into play.
Democrats, both elected and at news desks, picked up the ball and ran it all the way to the end zone, only to discover they'd run the wrong way down the field.
Trump waited until Pelosi had made the impeachment threat official, then released the transcript of his chat with Zelensky. Turns out, the smoking gun didn't even fire blanks. The Federalist's Sean Davis wrote that the transcript "shows that Trump mentioned Biden and his son only once, and that there was zero discussion whatsoever of connecting financial aid to an investigation of Hunter Biden’s controversial Ukrainian energy business or the prosecutor who was fired while investigating it."
But that's not how the Mainstream Media reported it over the last couple days, blowing whatever might have been left of the final shards of their credibility. CNN deliberately excised 540 words from the middle of the transcript between "I would like you to do us a favor" and mentioning Hunter Biden. Here's the clip:
Over at Fox News, Shepard Smith made the exact same edit. So did MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace and Katy Tur. CNN did it a second time in this clip with Jim Acosta and Wolf Blitzer. Arguably worse, the Washington Post ran the exact same lie -- and it is a lie -- as the top story on their front page this morning. If there are other examples, and I'm sure there are, you shouldn't be at all surprised.
As if that weren't enough, the whistleblower's full complaint was revealed this morning, and as PJM's own Matt Margolis reported, his complaint turned out to be "another nothingburger."
According to the anonymous whistleblower, "I was not a direct witness to most of these events described," but instead based the complaint on "various facts" he or she was informed of by "more than half a dozen officials." The whistleblower claims to have learned from "multiple U.S. officials" that "senior White House officials had intervened to 'lock down' all records of the phone call."
This is third-hand stuff with zero credibility.
But wait, there's more. Er... less?
Yesterday, Zelensky confirmed that "nobody pushed me" to investigate Biden. We also learned yesterday that Serhiy Leshchenko, the advisor to Zelensky whom ABC News falsely claimed was the source of the quid pro quo accusation against Trump, wasn't in the room during the phone call, and wasn't even Zelensky's advisor at the time. Leshchenko in fact denies telling ABC News what ABC News reported he said. Going deeper, the "Acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Joseph Maguire quickly dispelled a Washington Post report that he had threatened to resign if the White House did not allow him to testify openly."
Is there a single "fact" in this whole mess that is actually true? I think that's a fair question. Another fair question is, why should anyone with a single lick of damn sense give any credence to anything coming out of the mainstream media? The third question is: Where do they go from here? The Democrats placed the biggest bet -- impeachment -- and lost on a busted flush. No, wait... the whole l'Affair Ukraine wasn't even that good a hand. The MSN-DNC went all-in on a pocket deuce and seven.
If we had an honest media, maybe they'd do some real digging into the Biden family's dealings with Ukraine and China. They might even be able to find out a thing or two about Mitt Romney's advisor who sits on the Burisma (the Ukraine energy giant that also hired Hunter Biden) board of directors. There's still an awful lot of stink to this story, but the MSM-DNC only cares if the stench comes from the Trump White House.
For their part, elected Democrats are going full Sir Robin and running away from their big Ukraine mess. Pelosi was last seen ducking questions about it. And RUSSIA-RUSSIA-RUSSIA circus ringmaster Adam Schiff got caught making stuff up so badly that he's now claiming he was just engaging in a little parody. Ha-ha, Congressman -- the laugh's on you, your party, and your enablers in the press.
