On Friday, President Obama promised to stand with Planned Parenthood against, what he described as, efforts across the country to “turn back the clock to policies more suited to the 1950’s than the 21stCentury.”
Obama is the first sitting president to deliver an address to the abortion industry giant. According to Fox News, the president praised the group’s nearly 100 years of service to women and condemned critics, he said, who “try to turn Planned Parenthood into a punching bag.”
Observing the many new abortion restrictions passed recently in state legislatures, Obama charged that “an assault on women’s rights” is underway across the country.
Obama encouraged the Planned Parenthood supporters gathered to continue to fight for abortion rights.
“You’ve also got a president who is going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way,” the president said.
The president did not mention the Gosnell “house of horrors” abortion trial currently underway, in which a Philadelphia abortionist is charged with the murders of a patient and babies who were born alive during abortion procedures. Planned Parenthood admitted that the organization knew about complaints regarding Gosnell’s clinic but did not report him.
At the conclusion of his speech, President Obama said to Planned Parenthood supporters, “Thank you. God bless you.”
