"At some point we may get to someone you do care about." In the film Die Hard, the evil mastermind Hans Gruber says this to the hero John McClane, who is pretending he knows none of Gruber's hostages in an effort to protect his wife. The president and the Democrats who are supporting his (and Hillary's) insistence that we import thousands upon thousands of Syrian refugees would be wise to consider this warning.
The people in Congress on both sides of the aisle tend to think that they will never be affected by the decisions they make and the laws they pass that the rest of us must obey, or suffer the consequences of their poor judgment. Bringing thousands of people into our communities who cannot possibly be vetted is obviously a catastrophe in the making. Some of them could very well be terrorists willing to die for their barbaric cause here in America. Many of these people readily admit they support ISIS and that they have no intention of assimilating into our society or adopting our values.
Just look at what Europe is undergoing right now as thousands of migrants pour into European nations, expecting all manner of benefits. They are not appreciative. Quite the opposite.
This president has already released many thousands of criminal illegal aliens into our cities to re-offend. And re-offend they do. And still he refuses to deport them. It is as though he is, and has been, actively striving to adulterate American society and culture by adding as many others to it as he can. And those he favors are from places with very different values, intolerance for non-Muslims being fundamental to their worldview.
How do we explain the president's meandering, halting, defensive words Monday at the press conference in Turkey? Judging from what we heard, it should be clear to every American that he is not competent. He does not see this horrific form of terrorism as more than a small problem, the Paris attack as a mere "setback." He does not have any intention of making more than a feeble show of combatting the savages of ISIS. He insists they are not Muslims despite "Islam" being part of parcel of their chosen name and their stated pride in the slaughter they commit in the name of Allah. He still refuses to utter the phrase "Islamic extremism." He displays obvious disregard for our men in uniform, who sign up to protect us from enemies like ISIS.
His answers today to legitimate questions were pathetic. For once the media were posing substantive questions, and he was angry at having to address them. It is obvious to anyone paying attention that he has badly misjudged the dangers ISIS poses to the whole world. He maintains that they are "jayvees," that they are "contained," that they are not Muslim, that he can vet the refugees he wants to welcome to the U.S. The only moments that seemed to energize him were about bringing thousands of refugees here. He clearly loathes his domestic opponents who oppose this plan. He loathes them much more that he is bothered by ISIS. He even slipped a bit when again claiming that these people are not true Muslims: "And so I think, on the one hand, non-Muslims cannot stereotype, but I also think the Muslim community has to think about how we make sure that children are not being infected with this twisted notion that somehow they can kill innocent people and that that is justified by religion." He most certainly identifies and sympathizes with the Muslim community and not non-Muslims.
President Obama also said today: "What I'm not interested in is pursuing some notion of 'American leadership' or 'American winning' that has no relationship to what is actually going to work." Those words should terrify every American. While many conservatives have seen this disdain for leadership in Obama from the outset, his antipathy for our country should now be clear to all. He does not want to "lead"; he has no intention of "winning." Again to reference Die Hard, if Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, do not stand up and stop this man from doing further damage, America is going to need a "s***load of screen doors."
