Vic Gumper, owner of a local pizza shop, Lanesplitter Pizza, decided to jump headfirst into the transition, even though he technically isn’t required to until 2018. It did not hold well for him. He raised all of his workers wages to between $15/hr & $25/hr. Logically, the prices for his pizzas had to go up to accommodate the new wage. His pizzas were advertised as “sustainably served, really … no tips necessary” at a hefty price of $30.
$30 for a pizza is ridiculous. The advertisement attempts to rally people to his cause, but when push comes to shove, other places are still cheaper. This is definitely a foreshadowing of what will happen when the change takes full effect in 2018: the cost of living raises, minimum wage increases and the value of our money goes down.
Needless to say the sales at Lanesplitter pizza have dropped by more than 25%. He’s losing plenty of business trying to make things “better” by putting the bandaid of $15/hr minimum wage over society’s bullet wound.
