The out-of-control violence in Chicago continued last weekend, with the police department reporting 33 shootings that killed eight people and left more than 40 wounded.
The dead included 14-year-old Tyjuan Pondexter, who had gone out to play basketball with a friend and was shot dead in a drive-by Saturday night. His 15-year-old friend was shot twice in the leg, but survived.
Speaking on "Hannity," Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke blamed the continuing problems on hands-off policing in major cities, combined with anti-Second Amendment policies.
Clarke noted that President Obama remains silent on the "staggering" violence in his home city.
"In this instance, all we get from Rahm Emanuel, the mayor, who is an Obama protege, is a shoulder shrug. We get a head in the sand from the superintendent of the Chicago police department - he’s been nothing more than a mouthpiece for Michael Bloomberg’s assault on the Second Amendment - and from the President of the United States, the same. ... I think this is Exhibit A in the case that, to these individuals, black lives do not matter," said Clarke.
He said that the violence will only get worse unless the "assault on the American police officer" comes to an end and Democratic leaders in these cities "properly resource" their police forces.
"The good law-abiding people of Chicago are suffering. There are too many felons and career criminals that are armed. The law-abiding people are not."
