Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Resigns

All this delay was Political if you have been keeping up on it, in order to keep the seat Democrat. Its amazing that he is being investigated for fraud and other charges and yet he gets voted in. Now there is word that he will get disability and Pension??? What if he is convicted, does he still keep his taxpayer Pension?  Unbelievable!

Aides to House Speaker John Boehner are confirming they have received a letter of resignation from Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. The Congressman has been on medical leave since June and is under federal investigation for misusing campaign funds. As Katie reported earlier today, “He has also been investigated for being caught up in the Rod Blagojevich saga and is suspected of trying to help sell President Obama's former U.S. Senate seat.” According to the Washington Post, “It has been rumored in recent weeks that he would resign as part of a plea deal.”
His resignation means he will not be sworn in for the term he won in November. Despite not having actively campaigned for it, Jackson comes from a safe Democratic district and was easily reelected.
The resignation will trigger a special election for his seat, which will be declared by Gov. Pat Quinn (D) and must occur within 115 days of the vacancy.
Among the names being mentioned for the special election are Jackson’s wife, Chicago Alderwoman Sandi Jackson (D), Cook County Chief Administrative Officer Robin Kelly (D), state Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D) and state Sen. Napoleon Harris (D), former football player at Northwestern University and in the NFL.
Also being mentioned is former congressman Mel Reynolds (D-Ill.), who resigned the seat that Jackson won in a 1995 special election and was convicted on charges of child pornography and sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old campaign worker.
The seat should easily stay in Democratic hands. It went 82 percent for President Obama in 2008.

JESSE JACKSON JR. RESIGNS FROM CONGRESS, MAY FACE JAIL TIME

Jesse Jackson Jr. has resigned from Congress just weeks after winning reelection for a ninth term.

Jackson Jr. has been in treatment for bipolar disorder since June. The timing of his treatment coincides with an FBI investigation into misuse of campaign funds which also reportedly began in June.
The FBI has been looking into claims that Jackson Jr. allegedly used $100,000 in campaign funds to decorate his Washington D.C. home and also purchased a $40,000 Rolex watch for "a female friend."
Days after his reelection, reports revealed that Jackson Jr. had hired attorney Dan Webb to work out a plea agreement with the Department of Justice. Though voters didn't know it when they went to the polls, the pleas deal negotiations had supposedly been taking place"for months" behind the scenes. The possible deal was said to include jail time and to require Jackson Jr.'s resignation from Congress.
Even before the FBI investigation, Jackson Jr. was being investigated by the House Ethics Committee for his alleged attempts to raise money for disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich in an attempt to get himself appointed to the US Senate. Jackson denied involvement in the Blagojeich scandal.
His resignation puts an end to the House investigation.
