Freddie Gray Defense Lawyer Feels Murder Charges Against Officers Will Be Dropped

Since we now know that Freddie Gray was originally taken into custody for possession of an illegal switchblade, and that Baltimore state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby rushed to judgement in charging six officers with murder, many respected authorities believe the charges would be dropped.
Now, even Gray family defense lawyers believe the same.
From IJReview:
Aside from the knife found on Freddie Gray, which police have called illegal, CNN reported on the other areas where the attorneys think Mosby’s case won’t add up:
Already, defense attorneys are filing motions seeking to exploit differences between the separate state attorney and police investigations.
Officials familiar with the probes also say the homicide investigation run by police investigators at most contemplated a manslaughter charge, not second degree murder as Mosby charged one of the officers, Caesar Goodson.
In addition, homicide investigators who were briefed by the medical examiner’s office believed the examiner’s autopsy report would likely find the cause of death to fall short of homicide, according to one official familiar with the case.
Mosby’s lead investigator is “former Baltimore Police Officer Avon Mackel. Mackel lost his rank with the Baltimore Police for his actions while investigating a robbery.”
In a different incident, “the SWAT team came to his house while he was intoxicated, uncooperative and holding a gun.”
Mackel isn’t exactly the type of person you want in charge.
Mosby released a statement condemning the leak and added:
While the evidence we have obtained through our independent investigation does substantiate the elements of the charges filed, I refuse to litigate this case through the media.
Loretta Lynch’s DOJ has already launched a “civil rights investigation against the Baltimore Police, despite halfthe officers involved being minorities.”
Because, of course that’s her first act as Attorney General.
