Those involved in whatever went on in this coup attempt by un-elected Trump-hating bureaucrats are getting concerned about what Durham is finding.
So, but of course, the Left’s inevitable assault on the integrity of U.S. Attorney John Durham, charged with investigating who-did-what in the alleged Deep State coup attempt against first candidate and then President Donald Trump, has now begun.
The headline this week in The New York Times goes like this:
The federal prosecutor investigating the origins of the Russia inquiry is examining testimony by the former C.I.A. director John Brennan and seeking his communications records.
The front-page story begins this way:
“WASHINGTON — The federal prosecutor scrutinizing the Russia investigation has begun examining the role of the former C.I.A. director John O. Brennan in how the intelligence community assessed Russia’s 2016 election interference, according to three people briefed on the inquiry.
John H. Durham, the United States attorney leading the investigation, has requested Mr. Brennan’s emails, call logs and other documents from the C.I.A., according to a person briefed on his inquiry. He wants to learn what Mr. Brennan told other officials, including the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey, about his and the C.I.A.’s views of a notorious dossier of assertions about Russia and Trump associates.
Mr. Durham’s pursuit of Mr. Brennan’s records is certain to add to accusations that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies. The president has long attacked Mr. Brennan as part of his narrative about a so-called deep state cabal of Obama administration officials who tried to sabotage his campaign, and Mr. Trump has held out Mr. Durham’s investigation as a potential avenue for proving those claims.”
Recall that when Durham was confirmed for his job as the Connecticut U.S. Attorney in February of 2018 – not quite two years ago, this way by Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal and his fellow Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, also, a Democrat, this way. The comments came in a press release from Blumenthal:
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) applauded the Senate’s unanimous approval of John Durham’s nomination to serve as United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
“John Durham is a fierce, fair prosecutor. As a career prosecutor, John has dedicated his life to public service and the pursuit of justice. He knows how to try tough cases, having taken on organized crime and government corruption. He will be an outstanding U.S. Attorney.”
John Durham has served in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut since 1989, holding numerous positions, including Acting United States Attorney, Deputy United States Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, and Counsel to the United States Attorney. Prior to that, he served on the U.S. Department of Justice’s Boston Strike Force on Organized Crime, where he led the high-profile prosecution of former Supervisory FBI Special Agency John J. Connolly and mob bosses James “Whitey” Bulger, and Stephen “the Rifleman” Flemmi.”
Not mentioned was something else from Durham’s background. This, per his Wikipedia entry: CIA interrogation tapes destruction
In 2008, Durham was appointed by Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate the destruction of CIA videotapes of detainee interrogations. On November 8, 2010, Durham closed the investigation without recommending any criminal charges be filed. Durham’s final report remains secret but was the subject of an unsuccessful lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act filed by The New York Times reporter Charlie Savage.
Torture investigation
In August 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder appointed Durham to lead the Justice Department’s investigation of the legality of CIA’s use of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” in the torture of detainees. Durham’s mandate was to look at only those interrogations that had gone “beyond the officially sanctioned guidelines”, with Attorney General Holder saying interrogators who had acted in “good faith” based on the guidance found in the torture memos issued by the Bush Justice Department were not to be prosecuted. Later in 2009, University of Toledo law professor Benjamin G. Davis attended a conference where former officials of the Bush administration had told conference participants shocking stories and accounts of illegality on the part of more senior Bush officials. Davis wrote an appeal to former Bush officials to take their accounts of illegality directly to Durham. A criminal investigation into the deaths of two detainees, Gul Rahman in Afghanistan and Manadel al-Jamadi in Iraq, was opened in 2011. It was closed in 2012 with no charges filed.

Got that? Not only was Durham lavished with praise by Connecticut’s two Democratic US Senators – both of whom sponsored him for the job. Once there, two Attorney’s General, Bush’s Michael Mukasey and Obama’s Eric Holder turned to Durham for two different and separate investigations into the CIA.
Suffice to say, Durham’s reputation for being a “fierce, fair prosecutor” (per Blumenthal and Murphy) and his experience in twice investigating the CIA for both the Bush and Obama AG’s, make him the perfect “fierce, fair prosecutor” to not just be leading this current probe but to find out the facts of ex-CIA Director John Brennan’s involvement.
But suddenly? Because he is looking into Brennan’s role in all of this as the then-CIA Director, The New York Times runs a front-page story saying:
“Mr. Durham’s pursuit of Mr. Brennan’s records is certain to add to accusations that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies.”
What this says is glaringly simple. Those involved in whatever went on in this coup attempt by un-elected Trump-hating bureaucrats are getting concerned about what Durham is finding. It made news a while back that Durham’s probe had now become a criminal investigation.
Suffice to say, as Fox legal analyst Gregg Jarrett told Sean Hannity on Thursday:
“I would have my criminal lawyers on speed dial, because [Attorney General Bill Barr] made it pretty much clear he is going after not just the intel agencies but private actors.”
Indeed.
This, in turn, explains exactly why The New York Times is abruptly attacking the very U.S. Attorney who was once a favorite of Democrats Blumenthal, Murphy and, yes, Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder.
Shocking. Not.
