Experts are blaming the first malaria outbreaks in Texas and Florida in 20 years on climate change, and not the genetically-modified mosquitoes being released in the Florida Keys by a Bill Gates-backed biotech firm.
“The prediction from climate change scientists is that we are going to see this greater spread of vector-borne diseases in places where we have previously eliminated [them],” asserted epidemiologist Jackie Cook.
Establishment “fact-checkers” were quick to deny any link between then malaria outbreaks and the release of genetically-modified mosquitoes by a company funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Associated Press, citing the foundation, insisted it “has not funded any work involving mosquito releases in the U.S.” – although it does fund Oxitec, a biotech firm which is “releasing modified mosquitoes in Florida as part of a disease-control initiative”.
Oxitec – in a “trust the science” kind of claim – says it is is “scientifically impossible” for their mosquitoes to transmit malaria.
Bill Gates enthusiastically backs a mosquito factory in Colombia, which breeds 30 million of the creatures a week, releasing them in hopes they will mix with wild mosquitoes and pass them bacteria which hinders the transmission of Zika virus and dengue fever to humans, among other ailments.
Gates once personally let loose a jar of mosquitoes on his audience during a TED talk, in which he acknowledged that you “have to be careful” when it comes to malaria and mosquitoes because “the parasite evolves and the mosquito evolves.”
