According to White House Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer, it is inconvenient when media outlets dare to offer a narrative that runs contrary to the White House’s official spin.
That’s terrible- I mean, after all, what is the media but an expression of the official Party line for the President, right?
On Wednesday, Pfeiffer said that the Drudge Report, the online news digest that shook up the traditional media by offering an alternative to the lapdog liberal media, “hurts” the Obama message.
Speaking to the adoring Obama fans at Politico, Pfeiffer stated, “Anyone saying anything can get caught up in the spin cycle in a way that is very damaging. It hurts what we’re trying to do, but then it is very damaging to that individual person.”
He then noted the ridiculousness of reporters asking him for a comment based on a story they saw on the Drudge Report,
“I sort of ask them to repeat themselves — say that to themselves out loud again and think about it,” Pfeiffer said. “And everyone’s always a little embarrassed about it and says, ‘My boss — my assignment editor’s on me about this.’”
“Embarrassed?” Who should be embarrassed? As Andrew Breitbart pointed out, the liberal media has been failing America for decades. When Drudge began offering a one-stop outlet for people to receive news on which liberal propagandists would not report, it was a wonderful opening of a new medium that would become the alternative media.
Pfeiffer may scoff at a journalist receiving their news from the powerful website, but the fact remains that Drudge and the now-prevalent alternative media has been doing what the liberal mainstream media can’t or won’t do- provide balance to our discussions.
It should be noted that as Pfeiffer spoke to Politico about the ridiculousness of getting news from the Drudge Report, Politico ranked 520th in the U.S. by Alexa and the Drudge Report ranked 93rd in the U.S.
Pfeiffer’s real problem with Drudge is the same problem liberals in power have had with Drudge since the days of Monica Lewinsky- the floodgates opened and the corrupted “journalists” could no longer maintain a monopoly on the selective release of information.
The face of media is changing and there are bound to be those who wish to dismiss the effectiveness of the alternative media. As the mainstream media struggles and wonders why, the alternative media thrives because it slates a thirst for the other side of the story that has been restricted for decades. Pfeiffer, Obama, Carney and the rest of this manipulative administration does not have to like it, but Drudge and the rest of the alternative media are here to stay.
