Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu (D.), who is facing a tough reelection fight from Rep. Bill Cassidy (R., La.), doubled down on Obamacare on Tuesday, saying the law is “getting stronger every day.”
Landrieu touted the administration’s announcement that 7.1 million people had signed up for insurance on the exchange. According to the RAND Corporation, only one-third of Obamacare sign ups were previously uninsured.
From Politico:
“Today’senrollment announcement confirms what I have said since Day One—the Affordable Care Act holds great promise and is getting stronger every day,” she said in an emailed statement.Landrieu promised tocontinue fighting to make it better, even as she warned of the consequences of rolling it back.“We are not going back to a time when they were one health emergency away from financial ruin, when people with pre-existing conditions were denied coverage, and when our mothers, sisters and daughters paid more for coverage simply for being a woman,” she said.
Landrieu’s defense of the law comes as a new study found that Obamacare’s mandates and fees would increase health care costs for employers an average of $5,000 per employee.
