In a rare moment of journalistic integrity, CNN actually criticized Barack Obama for his most recent unconstitutional executive order, signed on what Obama has referred to as ‘Equal Pay Day’, to address pay inequity between men and women. At issue is the fact that, in Obama’s White House, women make 88 cents to the dollar compared to men, a fact that Press Secretary Jay Carney excused away as “better than the national average.” CNN’s John King described this as “a textbook case of do as I say, not as I do.” King added, “It’s better than the national average. I guess the coach would say, is that the best you got?” (watch video below)
Bloomberg News’ Margaret Talev had this to say, calling Carney and Obama out on their hypocritical argument.
Jay Carney’s issue with the way these numbers are sort of aggregated is fine, except, the problem is it’s the same way the national numbers are aggregated. He’s saying, “Well, it’s apples and oranges and the statistics are more complicated than they show. You’re taking the average and that includes a lot of women who have lower paid jobs on the bottom. If you compared deputy chiefs of staff to deputy chiefs of staff, they make the same money.’But, critics of this 77 cents number would say the same thing, which is it’s more complicated than it seems.
