Impeachment? 'All A Scam Started By Democrats at WH,' Boehner Says

(CNSNews.com) - "We have no plans to impeach the president; we have no future plans," House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told a news conference on Tuesday.

"This whole talk about impeachment has come in from the president's own staff and coming from Democrats on Capitol Hill. Why? Because they're trying to rally their people to give money and to show up in this year's election.

"Listen, it's all a scam started by Democrats at the White House."

Boehner said the same thing earlier this month, but it did not stop the talk of impeaching President Obama.

White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer told reporters last Friday that he would "not discount" the possibility that Republicans might try to impeach the president: "I think Speaker Boehner, by going down the path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some in the future.” (Boehner is suing the president on the grounds that he has exceeded his constitutional authority.)

Also on Friday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest was asked if he really thinks the president will be impeached: "Well, I think that there are senior members of the Republican political party or certainly prominent voices in the Republican Party who are calling for exactly that." He was referring to Sarah Palin.

And on Sunday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Republicans "are trying to sue the president, on a path to impeach the president, while we're (Democrats) trying to create jobs and have stability in our country and in the world."

On another topic, Boehner said on Tuesday he expects to move a border security bill on Thursday.

The legislation runs "about $659 million dollars, which covers the expenses we  believe that are necessary between now and the end of September. And I  think there is sufficient support in the House to move this bill. We've got a little more work to do," Boehner said.

"I think we should do something before we go home, and we're working to get there," he added later.

President Obama has asked for $3.7 billion in emergency funding to address the border crisis.

Meanwhile, press reports say President Obama may act unilaterally before the midterm election to grant work permits to millions of people who are in the U.S. illegally.

"The move could scramble election-year politics and lead some conservative Republicans to push for impeachment proceedings against President Barack Obama," the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

Obama announced late last month that congressional efforts to reform the nation's immigration system were dead and he would proceed on his own authority to fix the system where he could.
