Wife of War Hero Chris Kyle Gives Inspiring Speech at The NRA Convention

Wife of War Hero Chris Kyle Gives Inspiring Speech at The NRA Convention

AUTHOR Bookworm
Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle would have been so proud. One of the points he made repeatedly in his autobiography, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, was that his wife was an amazing, loving, strong woman. Taya proved the truth of Kyle’s loving words on Friday when she gave a moving, powerful speech at the NRA’s Leadership Forum both eulogizing her husband and speaking out for American liberties – including the right to bear arms.
Before Taya appeared on the stage, the NRA showed the attendees a short slide show showing Chris as an impish little boy, a warrior, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a good friend. When Taya came out, the audience treated her to long, affectionate applause.
Although Kyle was remembered at the NRA Leadership Forum as a war hero and for his staunch defense of the Second Amendment, Taya wanted to make sure that they remembered that he wasn’t just a symbol, he was a person:
Promise me that you won’t think of Chris solely as a hero. He wouldn’t want that. Instead, I ask you to see him the way he would’ve wanted you to see him. As just an everyday boy who did his best at what he loved, growing into an everyday man, loving his God, loving his country…and loving his family.
Taya made clear that Kyle’s heroism in the field didn’t come about because he considered himself a superman. Instead, it was because he loved his country, his God, his fellow servicemen, and the sense of rightness and justice that came with taking down the people he considered barbarians whose every belief and act was counter to core notions of human freedom and natural rights.
Taya – whose husband was murdered with a gun – made clear her understanding that individual tragedies cannot dictate national policy, nor do they give evil intent to an inanimate object. Speaking of Democrat efforts to ban guns in the deluded belief that doing so will ban humans’ worse impulses, Taya said,
I challenge anyone to tell me there isn’t evil in this world. From the days of Cain and Abel, we know all too well there will always be evil. But that evil shouldn’t take away our freedoms. In fact, the only way to defeat evil is by taking advantage of our freedoms.
