Obama Compares Refugees To Pilgrims

What an Ass!

Obama’s Thanksgiving address this year came with a completely unneeded political gesture. Thanksgiving is a time where Americans get together with their families for good food and, as the name of the holiday would suggest, giving thanks for the good that we have in our lives. It’s not a time where we sit around the television to be lectured by our oh-so-morally-righteous President.
He compared the Syrian refugees that want to come to America, fleeing the Middle East, with the first American pilgrims who arrived to America on the Mayflower, saying that the pilgrims who came to the country in 1620 were fleeing persecution and violence in their own land, and that on a day where we honor their memory at Thanksgiving, we should also be thinking about Syrian refugees.
Obama said that the refugees are the new pilgrims, that they are coming to the United States to find new peace and love for their families, and that what makes America so fundamentally American is that it is the land of the free, seeing as it offers these refugees the chance to do so.
While on the surface the comparison seems to make sense, some critics online have noted that Obama’s comments ignore the fact that the pilgrims were coming with their whole families, whereas many of the Syrian refugees are lone single men. They have also noted that the pilgrims were not members of an Islamic terror group, and that global terrorism was not something people in 1620 had to worry about the same way people have to worry about it in 2015.
One of Obama’s last comments was that Americans should not participate in Black Friday and Cyber Monday, because nothing says America like ordering Americans to do or not do something, and to go against the freedom this country is known for.
