Investigation: Obama Made Shutdown As Painful as Possible

Last year, the Democrat-controlled Senate rejected every single budget compromise proposed by the Republican-controlled House which ultimately led to the government being shut down for sixteen days. But the politically-motivated theater didn’t stop there.

A recent investigation reveals that Obama actively made the shutdown worse than it would have been for political reasons.

It confirms what the American people knew all along: Obama tried to make it as painful and visible as possible just to make a point — and a really bad one at that. He thought if he could do this and fault Republicans for the shutdown, maybeDemocrats could win some brownie points. Except now it’s all backfiring. ]

“The Obama administration appeared intent on making this sequester as painful and visible as possible, and this was another example. Instead of working with Congress to make responsible cuts and reforms, the administration took the political opportunity to go after funds used to payteachers and police salaries,” Hastings said at a hearing on the report today.

The chairman expressed his “frustration and disappointment in the Obama administration for repeatedly stonewalling Congress and stalling our legitimate oversight efforts” — ignoring requests for documentation and forcing the committee to issue subpoenas.

President Obama said that the shutdown was causing “completely unnecessary damage on our economy.” He continued, “The American people are completely fed up with Washington. Nothing has done more to undermine our economy these last three years than the kind of tactics that create these manufactured cries.”

Well, he’s right about one thing: We are fed up with Washington — especially him.

But one has to wonder if he really believes what he says — or at least believes that the American people are too dumb to recognize the truth.

For starters, the shutdown inflicted a minuscule fraction of the damage caused by his signature healthcare legislation on our economy. It’s wildly dishonest to suggest that our sixteen-day partial shutdown was more detrimental than Obamacare has been and will be.

Secondly,  he is the one that caused “completely unnecessary damage” by trying to make the shutdown more injurious than it otherwise would have been — if it happened at all. After all, it was Obama himself who said that he would not negotiate. 

Here is a list of seven “stupid things” the government spent money on during the shutdown courtesy of the Daily Caller. Let’s see who was causing the “unnecessary damage” here:

1. Federal agencies created new websites to tell visitors that they don’t have enough funding to run their old websites.
2. The feds shut down the parking lot of Mt. Vernon, but not the park itself.
3. A DC-area canal is closed and had all the pumps taken off of it.
4. Angry moms launch full-scale assault to reopen DC turtle park.
5. Not closing parks near Democratic senator’s houses.
6. Posting park rangers at the WWII memorial to prevent rogue veterans from getting in.
7. The DoD is postponing the Navy-Air Force football game.
