In a recent segment with host Lou Dobbs on his Fox Business Network’s program, former CBS journalist Sharyl Attkisson spoke at length about the role of the mainstream media in covering for the continued failures and scandals that have become synonymous with the Obama presidency.
Attkisson, one of the few journalists in the mainstream media who has long been willing to follow stories regardless of the political implications the truth may have for the Obama Administration, finally left CBS in March after bitter disputes regarding her willingness to cover the Benghazi scandal, the failures of the Obama Administration and the cover-up that followed the terrorist attack that left four American dead.
In a candid conversation with Dobbs, Attkisson admitted that the media is run by “propaganda interests” and has become lap dogs for the Obama Administration due to a desire to not be labelled “right-wing nuts.”
After Dobbs blasted the mainstream media for not working as “watchdogs,” as they are supposed to do, Attkisson agreed and explained the nature of modern journalism and the propaganda interests that drive the news.
“They’re just not terribly interested or their interests often lie elsewhere in other stories,” Attkisson said, speaking of her colleagues in the mainstream media. “That in the limited time they have on television to tell stories they can find plenty of other ways to fill in the space then to look into some of these controversies. I think to some degree they have been played by propaganda interests who suggest that if these stories are covered they are simply phony scandals and Republican generated. Which they’re not, in my opinion. From a neutral viewpoint there are many important questions to be asked and implications here. But the propaganda campaign says that if you’re interested in the story you’re a conservative and a right-wing nut. And media should not be swayed by that but, I think to some degree they are.”
Remember: the media once operated as an unofficial fourth branch of the government, inherently suspicious of the government that continually tried to sneak things past the American people. This nation once had real journalists who, by continually asking questions about a break-in at a hotel that didn’t seem quite right, were able to bring down a president who felt purely above the law.
Now, we have a media that routinely works feverishly to try and bury stories.
