President Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI signaled to congressional lawmakers he would be willing to investigate the Democratic National Committee’s alleged collusion with Ukrainian officials in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election; raising alarm bells throughout the democratic party.
Speaking during his confirmation hearings on Wednesday, Christopher Wray told the committee he was open to a possible probe regarding the DNC’s cooperation with the Ukrainian government to damage then-candidate Donald Trump.
Sen. Lindsey Graham raised the issue, mentioning an article published in Politico in January that detailed the cooperation between members of the Democratic Party and foreign officials.
The article states that a "Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the DNC met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia."
"Will you look into this?” asked Graham.
"[I would be] happy to dig into it,” Wray confirmed.
The allegations of collusion between the DNC and Ukrainian government officials has raised eyebrows in recent days, as the mainstream media obsesses over Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer but largely ignores the Clinton campaign’s relationship with a foreign government.
