Vets should be celebrated as heroes — instead, however, they are faced with higher rates of unemployment, poverty, homelessness, depression, and divorce than the general population. These sad facts can partly be explained by the abysmal treatment our military vets receive from the government. Here are 10 ways that the Obama Administration treats our veterans like complete garbage.

1. The number of veterans waiting for more than a year to have their benefits approved is 245,000. That number has skyrocketed since 2009, when it was 11,000.

2. The Obama Administration and Department of Homeland Security has been spying on veterans. Bureaucrats call the targeted vets “suspected terrorist”. Brandon Raub, a Marine vet, was arrested last year by FBI and Secret Service agents. He was then held for a week at a psychiatric facility… All because the vet complained about the government in blogs and on Facebook.

3. Today, it takes military vets an average of seven months to get an appointment at a VA facility. Seven entire months! This would never be tolerated at a “normal” hospital.

4. The Department of Veterans Affairs has a backlog of over half a million overdue claims for benefits that are at least 125 days old.

5. “Mental illness” is now being used as a reason to take guns away from military veterans around the country. One veteran even had his guns confiscated after seeing a shrink.

6. More vets die from suicide than suicide than combat. 22 vets commit suicide every single day (one every 65 minutes), according to a new report by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

7. The IRS has been laundering money from veterans’ disability checks. Yes, you read that correctly… Disabled veteran Kevin Lake had this happen to him, and there are likely other vets out there with similar experiences

8. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has been caught banning the words “God” and “Jesus” during veterans’ funeral services.

9. 200,000 military veterans are homeless in the United States on any given night.

10. Many vets have had to pay to have their medals shipped to them under the Obama Administration. One soldier even had to pay a 21 dollar shipping fee to get his Purple Heart.
