According to a new report, California taxpayers will soon be responsible for furnishing 125,000 illegal immigrants with health insurance through Medicaid despite repeated promises by Democrats that such a thing would not happen.
Obamacare does not allow for subsidies and enrollment in Medicaid expansion for illegal immigrants, but California law allows illegal immigrants to obtain taxpayer-funded Medicaid if they enjoy “deferred action status.”
In short, for those lucky enough to be allowed to stay in the country in violation of our laws, the State of California is willing to pick up the tab for Medicaid insurance.
According to the LA Times,
“The report found that 154,000 people in California had been granted the status as of December 2013. About 81%, or 125,000, are eligible for Medi-Cal based on their annual income, which has to be less than $15,850 for an individual.”
Conservatives were treated as alarmists when they pointed out that illegal immigrants would be qualifying for government-funded healthcare.
Media Matters, the liberal website that works to justify liberal policies, called the assertion that illegals would gain insurance from Obamacare’s passage false. Calling illegal immigrants “undocumented immigrants,” Media Matters reported,
“Contrary to what [Laura] Ingraham has been saying on her radio show, undocumented immigrants are not eligible to apply for subsidized health insurance under the ACA…
In reality, as the National Immigration Law Center has noted, undocumented immigrants cannot get subsidized health care coverage under the ACA and are not even allowed to purchase private insurance through the individual health insurance Marketplace at full cost. They are also not eligible for subsidized health care or Medicare , nonemergency Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)…
Immigrants who have been granted deferred action through the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are also ineligible for Medicaid, CHIP or ACA benefits.”
The Devil is in the details when we consider that Democrats who continually promised that illegals were not eligible for federally-funded Medicaid expansions seemed to mean that illegal immigrants are not eligible for nonemergency Medicaid.
In other words, taxpayers will not be on the hook for the sniffles, but will incur the costs associated with costly operations.
Democrats have been under fire for the failures of Obamacare and the effects of the legislation that has netted a negative number of people insured when we consider the millions who lost their insurance thanks to Obamacare’s rigorous regulations.
Obamacare has been a nightmare for Democrats as costs continue to skyrocket and the Congressional Budget Office’s report earlier this month that showed that millions will lose their jobs thanks to Obamacare.
