US foreign policy is pretty hideous. We arm bad guys who end up trying to kill us, we spend trillions trying to be the world police officer, and we send untold billions to “help” other people… but the money ends up going to dictators.
Things are only getting worse. Not only did we continue to dump weapons and cash on the Muslim Brotherhoodleadership of Egypt (and their politicians are openly talking about war with us), but now Obama is planning on giving arms to the Syrian rebels in the civil war against Assad.
Obama’s plan to arm Syrian rebels and keep US troops on Syrian borders for a possible future invasion or attack is causing, again, bi-partisan protest against the plan. Most Americans don’t want another war over random other political tyrants. This plan is downright wrong. The Syrian rebels include many factions, many which are oppressive, tyrannical, and downright evil themselves. The leader of the rebels is a radical leftist. There are entire sections of the country being conquered by Al Qaeda soldiers who are taking part in the rebellion… and we’re going to arm them.
This doesn’t mean Assad is a good guy. He’s also a tyrant. But in other countries, the wars are usually between two sets of bad guys. It’s not like the movies where there is a hero and a villain. In the real world, most political movements are led by multiple villains.
This isn’t just a theoretical problem. Already, there are reports of Christians in Syria being murdered and women being even worse abused because of the Islamic rebels in some areas taking power.
For example, one of the allied groups of Al Qaeda murdered a 15-year-old boy in front of his parents for “insulting” Muhammad. This is why Rand Paul has been fighting the plan tooth and nail, and we thank him for it.
In the end, it’s pretty clear that the federal government is going to continue to rob us here at home to give weapons to people who hate us. More people will die. And more terrorism will be created.
And after all of the obvious conclusions that were predicted beforehand, they’ll use the new terrorism as an excuse for Obama to have more spying powers on peaceful people who have done nothing wrong. It’s insanity, it’s evil, and it’s the new normal.
The only solution that is possible is for people to understand that our military isn’t a global ATM for random dictators. It should be used for defense and defense only. That means protecting Americans — and not getting engaged in random parts of the world.
Until people understand this and demand it, the Obama’s and the McCain’s of the world will continue to rob the good guys to pay the bad guys. It’s sad, but that’s politics.
