Rabbi Killed Amidst Wave of Anti-Semitism; Race-Hustlers Remain Silent

With our president so unwilling to lift a finger against radical Islam across the globe and equally unwilling to stand by the side of Israel during their battle for survival, it seems clear that the president is setting the nation’s tone with regards to America’s relationship with the Jewish community.
Seemingly nothing  will interrupt this president’s latest vacation and accompanying rounds of golf, but he has weighed in on issues. He has come out of hiding to stir the pot on racial tensions in Missouri. He jumped to issue a statement over the passing of Robin Williams and, while Williams was a good man, the president’s actions make his priorities seem clear: the devastation of Israel warrants little effort, but the passing of a liberal celebrity is enough to warrant action by the leader of the free world.
The president spoke of the death of Michael Brown, a robbery suspect. But did the president weigh in on the death of Rabbi Joseph Raksin?
Raksin was walking to temple in Miami on Saturday morning, August 9th, 2014. The New York Rabbi was accosted by two men and the Rabbi was shot. He was flown to the Jackson hospital, but ultimately, passed away.
Quickly, the Miami-Dade police worked to disprove the hate crime theory. Many questioned if it was a robbery as there had been a string of robberies recently; however, many in the area reportedly understood that Jews going to temple carried no money.
Black leaders throughout the community were silent. National leaders were silent. Barack Obama who is all-too willing to weigh in on a recent death before knowing the fact was also silent.
Frederica Wilson, the Congresswoman for the district in which this heinous crime occurred, has said nothing.
“We don’t know if Rabbi Raksin’s murder was a hate crime or not. We do know that it followed local anti-Semitic incidents. We do know that it happened in a climate of a worldwide dramatic increase in anti-Semitic behavior. It happened in a climate of peak concern about anti-Semitism,” stated Jacob Solomon, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
Weeks before Rabbi Raksin was murdered, a Miami synagogue was spray-painted with swastikas and the word “Hamas.” Jews had cars vandalized with anti-Semitic words and symbols. During the Rabbi’s memorial service, someone scratched an iron cross and swastika in the hood of a car parked outside.
Was the murder of Rabbi Raksin a hate crime? I don’t know; I wasn’t there. It may have been religiously motivated; it may have been a robbery. However, what this highlights is a very specific and troubling set of standards by which public figures live.
A black teenager in Florida was shot and President Obama was quick to jump into the fray and embrace Trayvon Martin as the son he never had. Michael Brown was shot and though Obama had muted his response, he still weighed in. He calls and congratulates gay athletes for being selected by teams and in doing so, cherry-picks which groups are deserving of action on his part.
But he routinely disrespects the nation of Israel when he refuses to stand firmly and unequivocally by their side in their quest for self-defense.
We must concern ourselves with the preservation of dignity for all Americans, not just simply the selected groups who make the most noise or curry the most favor with the political elites.
